Look at the doors - they don't slide. That's an SUV, not a minivan.

I'm surprised that there aren't multiple deadly accidents on the Jamaicaway every day, especially in the wintertime. I have lived in Chicago, Honolulu, SF, Detroit, Ann Arbor MI, NYC, and New Orleans, and the Jamaicaway is hands down the scariest road that I have ever been on ever (although the Pali Highway in Hawaii is pretty nuts). The Boston Driver is truly a breed in and of itself. Hell, I have seen escaped mental patients riding their freaking bicycles on the Jamaicaway! I heartily recommend avoiding the J'way at all costs, especially this time of year when the weather can be messy, if you are at all interested in being healthy.

Is where you prove yourself as a driver.
The cities you mention by and large have roads laid out straight. That's no challenge.
Now, I was recently driving on hedge roads in Ireland. Barely a car and a half wide, twisting and turning constantly (they were actually laid out through cattle drives), speed limit 80 km/h, and of course two way traffic. The Jamaicaway is nothing after that.

The shifter is on the opposite side because you are too!
I drove all over northwestern Ireland and on to Dublin. I was very happy to ditch the car and start taking transit! My husband didn't drive because the rental cars are standard transmissions and he couldn't get the hang of the left-hand shifting.

is by far the scariest road I have driven. Did it once and never again! Those cars with with the "This car climbed Mt. Washington" stickers on them earned those.
Try it with a manual transmission

The Riverway/Jamaicaway--another mess:

The Riverway/Jamaica is almost as bad as the Southeast Expressway during the morning and late afternoon/evening rush-hours, to boot, especially at this time of year. One big reason is that there are so many curves, and bottleneck rotaries, which are pretty crazy to navigate, especially at this time of year, and during rush-hour.
