Apropos of nothing, one thing I've noticed twice since moving away from Boston is that a lot of people seem to think that "Southie" refers to the residents of the neighborhood, not the neighborhood itself.
I never say Southie.
South Boston sounds much better. Whoever created the shirt should have went with that.

Not Very On Target

Besides the obvious (Southy, Jamaca Plain), we have more phantom Dorchester touching the South End stuff.
The editors at the Globe have ran two stories in the last three weeks calling Methadone Mile and the Newmarket Area in Dorchester.

I am ready to forgive the graphic designer in Eden Prairie MN or China who designed this shirt, but do you think the newspaper based in Dorchester since 1958 and who will be there until this summer can figure out the metes and bounds of the neighborhood they are in?
There has always been a seemingly unwritten guideline at the Globe to stretch the boundaries of Dorchester to include Roxbury and Mattapan, especially for really negative stories, but even for some good ones as well.

In the ever fun game of "that's not [fill in name of neighborhood]!" I will agree that Methadone Mile is likely in Roxbury (or the South End if we are now calling where City Hospital is the South End), but New Market? - that is probably Dorchester. Although its no-man's land quality makes it debatable, South Bay is definitely in DOT, as is the Vic, so New Market, or at least part of it, is probably DOT too. Let the game begin!

...Just typing "Newmarket Square" into Google also returns with 02118.
Granted that whole area has really fuzzy boundaries between South End/Roxbury/Dorchester so who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Game On
The old boundary of the Town of Dorchester runs through the South Bay Center, though the BRA calls the line now the train tracks. There used to be a sign along Dorchester Avenue just south of Harvest Street that used to welcome you to Dorchester (Settled by the people from the ship the Mary & John, it would say).
Nearly all of the Newmarket businesses and the South Bay stores that have been around since before exchanges became random have 427, 442, and 445 exchanges, which are Roxbury exchanges. None of them have the common Dorchester ones (282, 436, 825). The Victoria (I still call it that) is a 442 number as is the Boston Pet Spa which are just west of the tracks have Roxbury exchanges, while the business along Mass. Ave outside of South Bay east of the train tracks have 436 and 825 as numbers.
As a dope who collects old maps the old Bromley Books always had Newmarket as part of Roxbury.
Attention Realtors - As always, anything South of Northampton Street is Roxbury. Good luck with that listing. It isn't the South End.

In addition to what's already been noted, Mission Hill and Beacon Hill are missing from the first shirt, while the second shirt says "Mission Hills." So you know the next shirt will feature "The Boston Commons" and "The Public Gardens," and it will likely say "Beantown," too.
On the second shirt, it seems we traded Hyde Park, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brighton, East Boston, Southie, and Mattapan to get Cambridge. Now, why would we do that?
Both designs are wicked ugly anyhow.
