Apropos of nothing, one thing I've noticed twice since moving away from Boston is that a lot of people seem to think that "Southie" refers to the residents of the neighborhood, not the neighborhood itself.
Brighton wishes that. (Their residents regularly trash talk Allston the A-B mailing list, but when you look at real estate prices, 02134 home sales come out at higher prices than 02135).
I am ready to forgive the graphic designer in Eden Prairie MN or China who designed this shirt, but do you think the newspaper based in Dorchester since 1958 and who will be there until this summer can figure out the metes and bounds of the neighborhood they are in?
There has always been a seemingly unwritten guideline at the Globe to stretch the boundaries of Dorchester to include Roxbury and Mattapan, especially for really negative stories, but even for some good ones as well.
In the ever fun game of "that's not [fill in name of neighborhood]!" I will agree that Methadone Mile is likely in Roxbury (or the South End if we are now calling where City Hospital is the South End), but New Market? - that is probably Dorchester. Although its no-man's land quality makes it debatable, South Bay is definitely in DOT, as is the Vic, so New Market, or at least part of it, is probably DOT too. Let the game begin!
The old boundary of the Town of Dorchester runs through the South Bay Center, though the BRA calls the line now the train tracks. There used to be a sign along Dorchester Avenue just south of Harvest Street that used to welcome you to Dorchester (Settled by the people from the ship the Mary & John, it would say).
Nearly all of the Newmarket businesses and the South Bay stores that have been around since before exchanges became random have 427, 442, and 445 exchanges, which are Roxbury exchanges. None of them have the common Dorchester ones (282, 436, 825). The Victoria (I still call it that) is a 442 number as is the Boston Pet Spa which are just west of the tracks have Roxbury exchanges, while the business along Mass. Ave outside of South Bay east of the train tracks have 436 and 825 as numbers.
As a dope who collects old maps the old Bromley Books always had Newmarket as part of Roxbury.
Attention Realtors - As always, anything South of Northampton Street is Roxbury. Good luck with that listing. It isn't the South End.
To further add to the phone exchange thing, some parts of South Boston, particularly the project and streets next to JFK station, have 288, 282, 436, 825, 265, which were all Dot exchanges.
In addition to what's already been noted, Mission Hill and Beacon Hill are missing from the first shirt, while the second shirt says "Mission Hills." So you know the next shirt will feature "The Boston Commons" and "The Public Gardens," and it will likely say "Beantown," too.
On the second shirt, it seems we traded Hyde Park, West Roxbury, Roslindale, Brighton, East Boston, Southie, and Mattapan to get Cambridge. Now, why would we do that?
Husband is a screenprinter. One job, a couple of companies ago requested hockeybags and something to do with Philly. Except the art department didn't know how to spell and the result was PHIADEPHIA.
And now I mispronounce it nearly every time I need to say it.
Comments
For the second shirt:
For the second shirt: Cambridge is not part of Boston. (It's part of Somerville.)
There's another mistake on that shirt
Read the neighborhood names ...
Mission HillS?
LOLZ
The many Hills
of Mission?
Part of Somerville
God Help us. Villans wish they were as fiscally sound as Cambridge.
Ahem!!
Cambridge is not part of Somerville!
Somerville and Cambridge are separate cities.
I think he knows that.

When did they move Central
When did they move Central Square to the North End?
I don't know what pains me more
"Southy" or the complete removal of Allston.
No, wait, it's the dumb way the words are broken up. THAT pains me the most.

I mean, it's a made up neighborhood, may as well give it three syllables while we're at it.

I like that it's spelled like "mouthy".
Apropos of nothing, one thing I've noticed twice since moving away from Boston is that a lot of people seem to think that "Southie" refers to the residents of the neighborhood, not the neighborhood itself.
I never say Southie.
South Boston sounds much better. Whoever created the shirt should have went with that.
Allston missing? Is that a bad thing?
All Together Now
"Allston is part of Brighton."
You're welcome.
Brighton wishes that. (Their

Not Very On Target
Sorry for the pun.
Besides the obvious (Southy, Jamaca Plain), we have more phantom Dorchester touching the South End stuff.
The editors at the Globe have ran two stories in the last three weeks calling Methadone Mile and the Newmarket Area in Dorchester.
Here is one from yesterday talking about the BPS's new lunch facility in Newmarket Square:

1010 Mass Ave
Has the 02118 zip code which the city considers the South End.
...Just typing "Newmarket Square" into Google also returns with 02118.
Granted that whole area has really fuzzy boundaries between South End/Roxbury/Dorchester so who knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Game On

That T-shirt. ....,,,,
Is missing South Dorchester !
Saint Ann's and Saint Brendan's parrishes .
What gives?
Missing " Keep Allston Shitty " too !!
Phone number exchanges became
Phone number exchanges became random? When?
I thought if you get a Verizon landline, which most businesses do, it's still assigned the traditional way, to the nearest Central Office.
To further add to the phone

Streets Next JFK Station?
Well, that is Dot.
Well streets in the projects
Well streets in the projects and bordering but that is actually closer to Andrew isnt it.
They're trying to push it down on Dorchester
So the big sell of Andrew Square (ahem, sorry) Washington Village is easier for developers.
Realtor: "Junkies?? Here?? Oh of course not, Mr & Mrs 800k condo buyer, the junkies are WAY down in Dorchester and Newmarket."
That first one is a straight
That first one is a straight up badly-done ripoff of this poster that I've had in my house for 9 years: http://orkposters.com/product-category/u-s-cities/boston/

I am just happy nobody spelled Rozzie as Rossie. Total pet peeve.
Rossie/Rozzie
The "Rossie" spelling variation was once common. Here's one example from the 1971 Roslindale High yearbook: http://bit.ly/2nG7pVE
Lettering
The lettering on the poster you link to and on the T-shirt makes my brain hurt!!!
Ugh

Both designs are wicked ugly anyhow.
the Charlestown Sand Bar
Since when is Charlestown connected by land to the rest of the city?
Since they built the new dam in the 70s?
(n/t)
Another mistake:
Southie is spelled S-O-U-T-H-I-E, not S O U T H Y!
jamaca plain
.
Where the hell is Chinatown?
Where the hell is Chinatown?
Your first mistake
is that you went to the South Bay Target.
Not Pictured Here
The Globe has a photo of one T-shirt that seems to have correct geography and place names, with the exception of "West Roxberry"
And "Nesponset River."
And "Nesponset River."
Bay Village and "Central"
Bay Village is nowhere to be found on that bullshit t-shirt.
Also, WTF is 'Central'?
Reminds me of the infamous

Is that a cross between Che Guevara and a Hipster in a doorway?
