OK, OK, Maybe Back Bay or downtown...OH WAIT that pesky Marathon that happens every year, dammit. Hmmmm...Could move somewhere around the common, no marathon there OH WAIT Hempfest. Well, there's Dorchester? Damn they get a parade too. Mattapan? Too many gunshots and bootleg CD salesman? Would that work for you? Pretty quiet down there otherwise. Or Charlestown, nothing but yuppies and section 8/projects there...
WAIT A MINUTE. I've got it! Just move the hell out of Boston and save us all your whining!

the st. patrick's day parade is for:

1. People that got priced out of South Boston and now live on the south shore.
2. College kids and allston/brighton bros
3. Suburban teenagers
4. Bros that got priced out of South Boston and now live in Dorchester.

with 35,000 residents in south boston i would bet my life the majority don't want the parade here.

Here's an idea genius: How bout getting off the internet, and joining a neighborhood association, or the vets group, or hell, just write to your City Councilor, and try to get porta-johns installed around the parade route. The residents cry and moan about how it smells like piss and vomit for weeks after the parade, and yet the city has NEVER, for as long as I have lived here (18 years now) provided an option for parade goers to relieve themselves. Bars and restaurants' bathrooms are for patrons only. Every business on the parade route has signs in the window "NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS" and there are no porta-johns anywhere.
Compare this to say, the Philly Mummers Parade on New Years day, which features heavy public drinking (they don't even do the red Solo cup dance), and which could never, ever happen in Boston. The city would burn. Yes, Philly is better than us at this.
Gonna be plenty of yellow snow on the ground this year to prove my point.

You claim to like all the events I listed but I'd wager my paycheck you haven't been to 90% of them. MAYBE the marathon. Hempfest too. Besides leaving your precious enclave for work I doubt you ever leave Southie, provided you are not a troll and ACTUALLY live there.

I lived in Southie for a while, I loved the parade. My room mate at the time continued living there for years after I left. He loved the parade, and his wife did too when she moved there. They were not FROM the neighborhood and were also SoBo Yuppies, if you will. Not everyone has a stick up their ass about it. Some people can appreciate a good time.

Most SoBozo's only last 3 years here. They try to change the world, telling longtime residents what to do and how to live, then they move out. Whether they lose their job or knock up Becky, generally 3 years is the maximum stay. I know because I sell and rent a ton of units over and over usually on a three year cycle.

dont see nor feel anything that has ever been done in their name or honor

but, people, for a variety of reasons, continue to take actions to memorialize the dead. often this is done as a means of grieving and coming to terms with reality. other times it can be to carry on a message or ideal the deceased may have stood for. the different reasons are vast & are oft very personal to the individual

also, to answer your question, yes, the majority of the time a person is buried there is a parade in the cemetery. you possibly curse these parades in traffic and take note of them due to the little signs people place on their cars and tiny flags that are flown
