This sharing economy concept felt like a godsend to people looking to supplement their incomes but that gravy train only lasts so long. Think of Uber and it's quest to have a fleet of driver-less cars. Companies will do anything to cut costs so I can totally see AirBnB buying up property for their own gain. The solution: mandate that no 'non-hotel' business can rent out more than 7 days in any calendar month.
What?

AirBnB doesn't own properties. People use AirBnB to rent out what they own (or lease, in some cases).
That's why I said I can see

Not that I have saw. But in the same vein of Uber and it's self driving cars, AirBnB can at some point in the future buy up properties to rent directly.
Or Management Companies

In other really hot areas around the US where there is a shortage of hotels you see quite a few "management companies" buying up property and renting it out through Airbnb. These groups are not licensed or regulated like a typical inn or hotel would be. Theses management companies are making more than they would with permanent tenants. If something like this would happen in the area it would feel even more of a housing crunch.

Silly Cambridge city council thinks it has actual power. How cute!
The city manager, Harvard, and MIT are so nice to keep letting them play pretend.
