Citizen complaint of the day: That's it, I'm voting for Jackson
A concerned citizen in South Boston is outraged because the city didn't immediately respond to his complaint about couches on a sidewalk on Saturday afternoon.
He filed a simple complaint at 1:15 p.m., really just a picture of a pair of couches on the sidewalk on Leeds Street, marked "Residential trash out illegally."
At 5:52 p.m., though, he filed a second complaint:
Couches blocking sidewalk. Still here with no citation 5 hours after first report. Isn't this an election year? Maybe Tito will fire you all and hire some people who care about the taxpayers of Boston.
The now completely vexed citizen then followed up with a third complaint at 12:47 a.m. today:
Mayor Marty 'in bed with the unions hoping he isn't indicted' Walsh clearly cares nothing for voters or taxpayers. Sidewalk completely and illegally obstructed and reported hours ago. No action city government under him is worthless. Noted!!!
Fortunately, before he could call down the wrath of the Trump administration or something, the city responded this morning - at 7:35 a.m.:
Ticket has been issued for couches blocking sidewalk access. Couches have been sent in for collection

Squeaky Wheel
Gets the grease!
Imagine if
the 311 website had a comment section.
It sort of does
I've seen people file complaints about other people's complaints.
"I'd like to file a complaint...
"...about this complaint website having too many illegitimate complaints. It blocks legitimate complaints like this one."
Marty Walsh is the best thing
Marty Walsh is the best thing that Boston has ever had ever since Boston baked beans was invented way back in 1677
Not as good as baked beans. Molasses made beans delicious.
I thought Marty Walsh was going to be the "best thing that Boston has ever had ever since Boston baked beans" were invented but he isn't. I advocated for his election. He's made a lot of bad decisions and he will continue to make bad decisions because he has misplaced priorities and his team lets politics drive their analysis.
It isn't just spending the first half year of his first term advocating for Boston2024 without addressing taxpayer blank check or Oxford University analysis of the Olympic bid process, it's also pushing for Indy Car because people who used to advise his campaign set up shop as lobbyists and pushed it with him, without vetting the history and the character of the shysters who ran it. And then there were the people who work for Marty Walsh in city hall who saw Indy Car as an opportunity to drive math curriculum in Boston Schools... oferchristsake. Marty's priority with Boston Schools, a foundational component of Mass and Democratic party orthodoxy, has been 'cost-efficiency' not academic achievement with supports and enrichment. This is the city that is number one in income and wealth inequality in the USA. Our mayor has a good heart, he's very competitive, he makes bad choices in setting priorities and he makes bad decisions.
That said, If tomorrow is trash day in Southie, I think it's ok for people to put their garbage out on a Sunday without getting a ticket.
If though, the couch is going to be on the sidewalk for two days or more then a ticket makes sense. I'm pretty sure inspectional services doesn't write tickets on a Sunday.
We thank you from the bottom of our hearts
We thank you for this.
Those goody two shoes types who follow the law and don't put trash out until the day of collection are killin' us.

Rats each couches?
Gnaw.
Read twice, post once.
Rats eat garbage.
He is the best Mayor for
He is the best Mayor for Boston , he is still young . and has a vision for Boston's future with his plan to have a certain amount of affordable housing completed for the residents of Boston by sometime in 2021, and he's stepping up to his game, unlike previous Boston Mayors where you had areas of Boston such as the Eastie waterfront ignored for decades , you want a street paved or a stop sign installed or a pot hole filled in Eastie call 311 they will come quick and get the job done, never been so satisfied as a Boston resident with Marty in office, before Marty was in office you want something fixed on your street , you have to know a local hack who knows another hack who knows the mayor, none of that bullshit anymore , you call they get the job done.
Satisfied Boston resident
Go Marty
Credit where credit is due for "311"
Citizens connect was an innovation of the Menino administration. All Mary did was change its name, and he seems to have convinced a number of people, perhaps yourself included, that the whole thing was his invention.
Actually it was the Mennino
Actually it was the Mennino Administration who introduced the 311 citizens connect system, but when the citizens called , the response was at a snail pace if you wanted a pothole filled or a TV left on a sidewalk removed it would take weeks before they would remove the problem,
Today, it will take a day or two. That's the difference between the two administrations.
You two are a bit off
If you want to go back to an era where one could contact City Hall about an issue, the old hotline probably predates Flynn, while the concept of a computerized system to track issues was created by the Martin O'Malley administration in Baltimore. You all know Martin O'Malley, the 2016 Presidential candidate who the Wall Street Journal identified in a post debate photograph as "an unidentified man."

^ A short list of issues, but one couch on a sidewalk and that's the last straw? Take a stroll over to OCPF and look at who's funding the pols you plan on voting for.
And Tito won't twist or grab arms for
votes...
Besides Walsh is beholden to Big Furniture and the dumpster cartel.
If the couch was a lunchbox
If the couch was a lunchbox and the location was Government Center, police would have the entire area evacuated within half an hour.
Wow way to throw a tantrum
Wow way to throw a tantrum over absolutely nothing. Get a serious life...
If you were trying to pass in
If you were trying to pass in a wheelchair this wouldn't be absolutely nothing.
Indecent
Not only are they blocking the sidewalk, they also appear to be fornicating!
Perhaps
they should have included that in the complaint, it would have been answered faster.
#doyourjob
It is obvious by the volume of complaints on 311 that some city workers are not doing their job. For example, why do residents have to file complaints on vehicles that are parked illegally? The number of complaints for nonresidents parking in resident parking areas are off the charts. If the City tagged half of the cars without resident parking permits the number of complaints filed would be cut by at least 75%. It's the quality of life complaints that are not enforced.
The offender should've put
The offender should've put the couches in the road, instead of the sidewalk.
Leaving trash on the streets
Leaving trash on the streets is a southie tradition, if this yuppie has a problem with it move out. Whats next, they going to complain about double parked cars!
uhmm...
a yuppie wouldn't complain about that and a yuppie would never own a couch like that.
this is townie on townie rage.
on a side note: marty and tito ....neither are fit to be mayor. who else is running?
Hey, he was on a roll.
I would of waited at least a week to pick the darn things up just to see if he would implode.
I gotta admit, though, that "Mayor Marty 'in bed with the unions hoping he isn't indicted' Walsh" is pretty good.
Noted!!!
Overtime
So we pay a city employee overtime to remove to remove a
Sofa, Monday morning it will be gone.
The offender should be arrested for bad taste.
Not quite
Not quite. We dispatch an inspector from ISD, who is already on the clock and who is already out driving around issuing citations, to go issue a citation to the offender. Then, on Monday, when it's not overtime, we send a city truck to pick up the sofa (which the trash hauler is not contracted to remove and won't remove).

Helicopter Mom always took care of these sorts of things, so Concerned Citizen needed a new way to be heard.
