If that's the case then we need a better third candidate. Let's make TITO FOR MAYOR signs out of usedneedles. Post them all over the city. I'm a borderline homeless voter who's votining for Tito. Maybe he can solve the Long Island Bridge issue. GO TITO!!

Why didn't they ask in about the write-in candidates?

John A. Keith is gonna come out of nowhere for the win!

but lets refresh peoples memories.

Walsh

-evicted 700 homeless with 4 hrs notice, so he could put Long Island in the FAILED Olympic bid
-FAILED Olympic bid
-fired a city employee for participating in BLM on her day off
-wanted to ban Syrian refugees
-is under federal probe
-2 aides indicted, and still on the payroll
-allowed staffers to illegally vote early
-broke election laws by glad-handing with Bill Clinton at the polls
-FAILED IndyCar - endorsed Indy without vetting it. Former campaign manager, Chris Keohan, and aide Stephen Passacantilli's brother Dan were both bribed by BGP for $40,000 to convince the mayor to endorse it
-millions of lbs of concrete barriers still being stored illegally in the Seaport, in an area designated by MA Leg as "marine use only."
-Indy ticket holders still havent received refunds
-scolds pedestrians and cyclists for traveling in the city. Ineffectual on sidewalks and bikelanes
-pro-charter, and has defunded supports for autistic kids
-condoned BPD choking a teenager of color
-colluding with Gov. Baker to sell our harbor to developers
-recently closed recovery programs, SOAR and Safe Harbor, sending more than 40 people back to the streets
-opioid crisis
-BPD infected with racism
-BPD's abysmally low clearance rate on non-fatal shootings
-refusal to fund the city-funded housing voucher program that Josh Zakim has been advocating. This would provide 400 of our homeless with a place to live

"refusal to fund the city-funded housing voucher program that Josh Zakim has been advocating. This would provide 400 of our homeless with a place to live"

San Diego and San Francisco tried that and wound up exponentially increasing the number of "homeless" people flocking to each city attracted by the subsidy. Inevitably the taxes to support such a program drive up the cost of living in the city and drive out the tax sensitive lower and middle class citizens.

The bigger question to ask and problem to solve is why are so many Boston residents becoming homeless and why are large numbers of homeless people from outside the city are being attracted to Boston rather than seeking service providers in their home regions.

Zakim is one of those well meaning people with pie in the sky daydream thinking and a profound ignorance of the nuts and bolts behind basic infrastructure and social services.

Because there's such a complete absence of services in other MA cities.

I've been working in our Worcester office for almost a year. Based on what I've encountered working with marginalized people in central MA, I'm 100% sure if I were in need, i.e., homeless or extremely poor I would head to Boston.

Worcester, as the 2nd largest city in MA, offers nowhere near enough services for a population of its size. The city management is atrocious, public transportation is awful, and the state agencies that serve this population (DCF, DHCD, DTA) seem to operate with very little oversight from Boston.

If you look at counties, Worcester is the 2nd largest behind Middlesex, yet in per capita income, it's 9th out of 14, with 30% of its 92 cities and towns having a per capita income of less than $30,000. According to MA Coalition for the Homeless, Worcester County has only 2, yes 2, shelters for homeless individuals in Worcester County (Worcester and Fitchburg), with a total of 68 available beds (45 for men, 23 for women).

Population/ shelter beds:
Worcester County: 802,688/ 68 (45 M/ 23 W)
Suffolk County: 735,701/ 1815 (1543 M/ 272 W)

But let's not pin all of society's problems on him. These are structural problems with our post industrial society that no mayor anywhere can fix.

We are blaming Walsh for the opiod crisis now?

She's throwing a lot out there to see what sticks. My favs through quick reading are the ban on Syrian refugees and campaigning with Bill Clinton.

Sorry to say this to the anti-Walsh crowd here, but it is very true. I spend 20 years criticizing Menino like you guys do Walsh, and trust me, Menino had his share of first term gaffes just like Marty did. At the end of the day, if things are going okay, the mayor will be reelected. Now you guys have the numbers to go with my statement

One reason I voted for Scotty Redtruck Barncoat s the fear of a permanently installed Martha Coakley was worse than having a Rovepuppet for two years. I'm glad I did because I sure love Liz!

And Scott Brown's presence prevented the necessary 60 votes (at the time) to pass even more progressive legislation so yay congrats?

No business wants to be seen as supporting the losing candidate for fear of retribution in a town where the mayor is so powerful. Same goes for most community groups.

Unless Walsh does something illegal and the public turns against him in a big way (unlikely) he'll have the job for as long as he wants it.

We need term limits but that will never happen.

Are incredibly frustrating. Why do we have mayors for life? Marty's primary policy seems to be "build baby build" and yet he'll be reelected until he decides he wants to do something else. Our local politics are totally broken, an overly powerful mayor, a city council that does little beyond posing and both are virtually assured of offices for life once they get in.

If anyone has ideas about how to fix this, I'm in. Can we pass a ballot measure for mayoral term limits?

Can we pass a ballot measure for... term limits?

That already happened in the 1990s. The voters passed a term limits referendum, and then the SJC struck it down as unconstitutional. One of the biggest arguments against (on paper) was that term limits are unfair discrimination against female politicians. Go figure.

Thankfully so. If Boston had kept up a steady pace of building housing units in the decades before, we wouldn't have the massive shortage that exists now. This is one of Walsh's stronger points.

I live and work in Boston and am very happy with the job that Mayor Walsh has done! I am a teacher and have kids in BPS and am very happy with our schools and the direction in which they are moving. I feel like he is a good person and a strong leader. I will very proudly cast my vote for him.

there have definitely been some missteps. But if you made a list of all he has accomplished in one term, it would dwarf your "naughty list". Jackson is a nice guy, but not mayor material, IMO.

I thought it was illegal for city workers to endorse or work for a politician. Or are teachers exempt?

"The poll shows that even among black voters and Hispanic voters, Walsh is beating Tito Jackson among all categories, race, gender, age, geography,’’

“There isn’t a part of the city that isn’t supporting him.”

The mayor also had a 65 percent job approval rating

Of course, the main reason for that is that Jackson is not known outside of Roxbury. He really needs to start campaigning in the other parts of Boston quickly.

Know Jackson rather well, and also know i wont be voting for him now or at any time in the future.

I've met him several times. I have asked him for help once. He told me, point blank, in a city hall conference room, in a meeting with at least 4 other people present, that because I was white and had not brought a black friend with me to meet with him, that he would not help me.

This is all you need to know about him. He's a petty racist, and a completely ineffective councilor and piss poor candidate. Identity politics were enough to get him a seat in the council, but I have enough black friends and neighbors to know that (gasp!) they're just like the rest of us and would prefer a competent, intelligent candidate to someone who is playing only one card. We have great examples of strong black candidates at every level of government, from Obama to Ayanna. Tito is running the same kind of campaign that Charles Yancey and Chuck Turner ran, and it appears that the city is ready to move on.

How would that have affected this race? Walsh would not be able to distract everyone by shouting against Trump. Walsh might even have gotten a promotion and left office midterm, just like Flynn.

Walsh would have been appointed to the NLRB and the federal corruption probe would have been quietly pressured to cease.

Wu would be mayor and Tito would be told to behave by the national party if he wanted a future seat at the table.

Believe it or not the majority of the city isn't that far-left. Wu appeals to some but far from most.

This:

Believe it or not the majority of the city isn't that far-left. Wu appeals to some but far from most.

is more than likely true, anon. I don't think that Boston's ready to elect a non-white person as mayor quite yet.
