Paul Carmichael, 38, is being held without bail pending arraignment tomorrow on two counts of aggravated rape, two counts of kidnapping, three counts of assault and battery, and a single count of aggravated assault and battery, according to a statement from the Suffolk County DA's office.
Carmichael is charged with two incidents in July at his 198 Allston St. apartment, during which "he held [the women] against their will, beat and strangled them, and forced himself on them."
In one case, prosecutors say, Carmichael picked the woman up in Central Square in Cambridge and asked if she wanted to go to Harvard Square with him - but when they got in a cab, he had the driver take them to his apartment. In the other case, authorities allege, he tried picking a woman up at Commonwealth and Harvard avenues, but when she rebuffed him, "Carmichael allegedly approached her, grabbed her wrists and shoulder. He allegedly forced her onto Allston Street and into his building:"
Once they were inside his apartment, Carmichael allegedly attacked her. So great was the woman's fear, she later told investigators, that she tried to run out of his apartment; she said he grabbed her at that point, threw her onto an open futon, and strangled her.
Carmichael allegedly raped her in the apartment. Following the attack, the woman's assailant released her and she made her way to the Boston Police District 14 station, from where she was taken by ambulance to an area hospital.
Carmichael was actually arrested on July 22, and had been held since his initial arraignment in district court.
Authorities say they are looking for other women who might have been attacked by Carmichael. The Boston Police Sexual Assault Unit may be reached at 617-343-4400. The DA's office's Sexual Assault Unit may be reached at 617-619-4350.

A brief clarification -- Carmichael was indicted Oct. 8 but his arraignment date was postponed from earlier this month (hence the lengthy interim).
