State gaming commision to consider whether Steve Wynn worthy to own a casino here

The Herald reports the commission is more than perturbed at the Wall Street Journal report that the casino mogul - whose $2.4-billion Everett casino is now rapidly rising - has been sexually abusing workers for decades, and is starting an investigation into whether Wynn still has "suitability" to own a Massachusetts gaming license.

Their "Investigations and Enforcement Bureau" will get right on it. I call shenanigans. Sounds like that Bureau was make up on the spot.

He may not have a substantial amount of women go to his casino’s . The #Metoo movement might put him out of business.

Who would have ever thought that such a handsome and debonair supporter of Trump had a little problem that resembles the same one that fat orange traitor does?

Wonder how long it will take for Mahty to issue a strongly worded statement from one of his minions saying this aggression will not stand, man?

Think Mayah Carlo Bag-O-Donuts in Everett will also be so perturbed? Take a wild guess!

I can see Carlo now..."So what if he like to grab little on the side? Everett needs dem jobs and Mrs. Carlo needs that new Escalade! Not like da missus ever has to drive the thirty minutes it takes to get down 99 from the circle to Sullivan Square at noontime on a weekend"

If you can't trust a sleazbag casino owner who can you trust?! Look at how casinos have turned Atlantic City into a paradise!

Especially when you consider the little prick in the White House was a prime example of both the sleaziness of AC and casino owners in general.

I remember a few years back greeting the Sheldon Adleson entourage at Hanscom. That fucking guy was so decrepit, he could barely lift his head from his chest, yet he's considered "powerful"?

Who would decide for us that the only man fit to own a casino with table games in Eastern Massachusetts is an accused sexual predator?

No, seriously, the very entity which deemed Steve Wynn the only person worthy of running a (expletive) public blackjack game in half of a single state is now going to investigate whether or not he's still worthy of performing that task. Soak that in next time you vote incumbent in a state election. Soak that in next time some jackass bleats "taxes are the price we pay to live in a civilized society."

Sounds like who should be deciding. They gave him the license, they taketh away.

This story literally proves my (expletive) point that taxes are not the price we pay to live in a civilized society.

Unless, of course, your definition of "civility" extends to organized greed and sexual assault accusations. Mine does not.

Stop using the (expletive) you dunce. Just say fuck or do they not have the word in Vermont?

And please, help me circumnavigate the thought process that equates sexual assault, organized greed and taxation by the Federal government.

Hold on, while I light a joint for this answer.

Believe me. Gaffin, however, asked me in 2009 to not swear on UH, so I don't.

I also can't trash somebody for their nationality or post "erotic literature."

curious standards of proof. You could just as well say that this proves that climate change is caused by disrespecting the Second Amendment, or that the decline of American civilization is attributable to the institution of the Designated Hitter Rule (the second of these assertions is actually correct, but the Wynn situation provides no evidence for it.)

Should not be used in MLB at all, but should be used in minor league baseball to foster player development.

...it's hard to imagine a disreputable hotel/casino mogul getting away with anything these days.

... an opportunity to piggyback the current political climate in an effort to extort something else from Wynn. The casino/resort is well under way. Total loss for Wynn if he doesn't comply with additional codicils or (just my experienced Massachusetts political paranoia speaking) give additional bribes.

Every day, someone comes out of the woodwork, to accuse somebody famous of sexual harassment, that occurred in the past.

Why wasn't it reported WHEN IT FIRST OCCURRED? Every one of these I've read about, have all occurred in the past, some going all the way back 30-40 years. Why wait until now? I'm sure the statute of limitations has already expired in many of these cases, if not all.

As with the numerous allegations of priests molesting children in the past, I question how many of these sexual harassment allegations are actually true. Seems to me that someone is looking for a big payday.

If the Gaming Commission ends up revoking Wynn's license and it turns out these allegations against Mr. Wynn were completely false, get the popcorn ready.

Obviously another troglodyte who has no clue what it's like to have to resist the advances of a disgusting old man who feels he's entitled to do so because has money and what some morons term as power.

Then you might take into account the repercussions toward said employee from a billionaire who can afford to buy lawyers that find every guy you ever talked to in an effort to paint you as a slut, all while worrying about how you'll eventfully be able to afford counsel or eat when the men that run the casino business find out you're a "troublemaker"

Or am I wrong?

Why wasn't it reported WHEN IT FIRST OCCURRED?

Then you probably aren't old enough or smart enough to understand.

Why don't you just think about it for a little bit. Like, start with what would happen in your workplace if your boss or boss' boss decided to fondle you. Like, who would you report it to. Like, what would you expect to happen and what really would happen.

Maybe you should talk to your mom, aunt, sister, or grandmother about this.

Mom and grandmother have passed away. No sister either.

If the boss did something like that, then it gets reported to that person's boss.

You think that would work.

Really? Well, then. I have some nice bridge real estate - prime location ...

Here's some reality for you: you would probably be ignored, then fired for being a "non team player" if you made any further "accusations".

Honey, you just don't know and you just don't get it.

You gave that commenter two options: too young, or not smart enough. They only addressed the former. I'll leave it at that.

They occurred in the past? No shit, genius. This isn't Minority Report.
People are hesitant to speak out because enablers like you will side with the abusers and call the victims liars or sluts. Trump bragged about assaulting women on tape and garbage people like you still didn't believe it.

It's just too strange that everyone is coming out of the woodwork all at the same time.

We live in a highly litigious society, so I'm sticking with my opinion that someone is looking for a big payday.

When will the men who have to suffer the indignities of rejection by their subordinates get their own hashtag and the recognition they so richly deserve after all of the poor saps whose alleged sexual deviance has finally come to light have finally been exonerated of their crimes and tell those bitches to just get better jobs if they want a payday, amirite?

Moron.

I'm not the one reducing the revelations of pain and suffering caused by sick old men to women in the workplace into some sort of financial conspiracy designed to take money from the pocket of a guy whose hair and surgery alone makes him look guilty

And I'm the child.

Here's a clue:

I know literally dozens of women - friends, family members, coworkers - who have reported workplace groping and worse.

Know how many have gotten "giant settlements"? ZERO
Know how many have been fired, reprimanded, demoted, or bullied out of their jobs? DOZENS

This isn't about a big payday, silly little child - THIS IS ABOUT MAKING IT STOP!

You got that?

I've witnessed sexual harassment of one person who realized he had power over a woman. Why didn't she complain? In the instance I know of there was no one she believed she could complain to. Including relatives who were too busy shaming her about sex.

In other words my mother (when I was a kid). How did the man who sexually abused her manage to find the time? Because my mother's relatives found her and I an apartment in a two family. Except in the two family there was a stranger renting a room. In other words more of long term boarding house. My relatives never thought that perhaps an unknown man, whose wife lived in West Virginia with his children, living in the same physical space as a woman who was mentally challenged was perhaps not quite right!

In other words, my mother lived in a toxic, dangerous and sexually exploitive environment supported by her relatives. Relatives, one of which I should mention, included Jesus on her Facebook likes. Next to the man recorded on tape as saying he could grab any woman by her genitals because woman throw themselves at him.

I would bet the equivalent of my life's income that the same form of situation exists for many people, especially women. Where they feel they have no place to turn because their relatives, co-workers or government fails to protect them.

It was only a few decades (or less?) ago when during a rape trial a woman's sexual history could be used to "prove" that she was a willing partner where there was a rape. An argument that basically made the woman look like the perpetrator who is just trying to create trouble for the rapist.

Sexual harassment, molestation and rape are probably far, far more common than we have any idea today. Today we see the tip of the iceberg.

WHY is the Gambling Commission even investigating these allegations? It's a matter between Wynn and his employees, and perhaps MCAD - once the casino is open and the alleged harassment occurs with the new casino's employees.

Oh wait, it's sexual harassment. So the politically correct thing to do is for a state regulatory body to threaten to revoke a person's license because they may not be "suitable' to operate a casino.

In a word, pathetic.

They disqualified the first partner on the Suffolk Downs bid based on the outside possibility of some shady connections of a subsidiary in Macau, weakening that bid, while ignoring all the clouds over the Wynn bid. Sure, some would say, these accusations are coming to light now, but like the Weinstein accusations, they must have been known about in some circles.

Hate to say it, but it's a bit late in the game for this. His moral veracity is the same now as it was in 2012. Crosby's mad rush to give Wynn his casino might be blowing up in their faces, but it would be tough for the Gaming Commission to back out now.

But investments stalled are profits denied.

Even if this situation merely delays the opening of the casino, it's money straight out of Wynn's pocket. It's a fine by another name.

Wynn's already proven himself to be a liar in terms of his bid. The number of jobs promised, size of the casino and promised amenities (arena vs. ballroom) have all been reduced or scrapped. As opposed the the other bid, which had a better grasp of the market and promised realistic numbers. Instead, the license was awarded to Wynn, allowing Charles Lightbody (head of the local mob ... oh, and No Boston Casino, too) to cash in on this particular land he happened to own. This deal just gets shadier and shadier.

I went to high school with the Lightbodys. It would be news to Charlie that he runs the local mob when he's not even a made guy or even been in a crew.

He's an angle guy, that's it. He got bagged fronting and end of story.

Whoever had the idea that Wynn was some sort of angel? He's a casino mogul. It'd be a surprise if he hadn't slept with every secretary he hired.

He has dealt very generously with the local community and with interested parties. When the Casino plan was revealed, the Mystic River Watershed Association director commented that the interface with the waterfront could go a great deal further toward shoreline restoration, which would not only be better looking, but would buffer surge and flooding. Wynn's group quickly drew it up and got the blessing to do it right. So, instead of rocky riprap crap, it is going to look like a proper shoreline. Wynn has also mitigated a nasty chemical site such that if it does flood, it won't poison everyone around. They have also contributed generously to a number of local organizations.

Of course, you and I know that this is just good business. But it is also a refreshing attitude from a developer to have them listen, understand, and do things the right way.

That's what has bought Wynn so much good will. He knows how to throw money around to make money.

What happen in Vegas stays in Vegas. Acting like Claude Rains from the movie Casablanca "I'm shocked that sexual harassment is going on" is going to blow up in your face. It is only a matter of time before reporters uncover stories about the State House, Massport,MBTA and the MSP.
