Everett city councilor lets his racism fly online; to face protest at Monday council meeting

WFXT reports Everett City Councilor Stephen Simonelli "is under fire for making racist remarks the Haitian community said were aimed at them."

Simonelli thought one guy's comments in an Everett Facebook group about being tempted to get out of his car and kill someone after a traffic tiff with "a nasty Haitian woman" warranted a hearty "Hallelujah" in response. And then he added those people should learn to drive and talk like Americans and be grateful just to live here.

Our Revolution Everett will hold a protest at City Hall starting at 6:45 p.m. tomorrow (the link will also bring up screenshots of Simonelli's comments).

You'd be surprised - there are more younger progressive people in Everett these days. It's not a hipster enclave and probably never will be, but there's a certain amount of overflow from Cambridge/Somerville. I should know - I'm one of them.

The only people responsible for the election of Donald trump are Donald trump voters and the mainstream media for showing empty Trump podiums over live Bernie events.

There is no actual logical outcome where the blame for current events falls on Bernie unless you jump through some SERIOUS cognitive hurdles.

Hello Brian! I’m the person who originally responded to you and who used the word “progressive” in doing so. I was responding to your general assertion, whether intended or not, that Everett residents can be written off as not caring about this because they’re all social conservatives who are close-minded. I should say that there are plenty of folks in the city, both longtime residents and relative newcomers like myself, who are not this way. That is what I was responding to.

Go take an anger management course, and STFU. Their lack of "anger" isn't the problem - your belief that anger = caring is. Stop whining about people not being angry enough - they are plenty angry, they are simply far more mature than you are in handling and channeling that anger.

They aren't abusive assholes like you are, with serous health problems to show for it.

I was stating a fact. Part of the appeal for "hiding" behind an anonymous moniker is I don't have to be worried about you dragging me in real life, while I offer you sincere criticism. Something that you should learn to appreciate.

"No comment, read FB no quotes, out of control - leave me alone please."

I condemn these statements in the strongest of terms. The City of Everett is truly a diverse community, and has been for generations. We are one of the fastest growing immigrant cities in Massachusetts and are proud of that. Many new Americans call the city home. That is our strength. By embracing and assisting all Americans, we flourish together. We simply cannot turn our backs and remain silent when we hear hurtful comments.
