Chicken happy to see light of day again

Waving chicken on the Greenway

Workers yesterday mounted the old Fontaine's waving chicken on the Greenway, along with a couple of the other signs planned for a summer-long neon exhibit between State and India streets. The neon is yet to come.

It wasn't neon, but they should bring back the Buzzy's Roast Beef sign, a throwback to when Boston was, believe it or not, a grimy, miserable city with losing sports teams.

Bruins: 1970, 1972
Celtics: 37 straight championships in the 60s and 70s...

How did they do that?

Each year they have a division championship, a conference championship, and the world championship.

Right after they closed, me and my friends would drive by the site every few days hoping that it would have been torn down but not yet scrapped, and we could either heist a big chunk of it or sugar talk someone on the demo crew to let us carry a lot of it off. We actually detoured by there a lot for a while.

It became a running joke for when we were looking for something to do. "You wanna go look at the Buzzy's sign?". The dream was that everyone could get the part of the sign that had the name of what menu item was either their favorite or had made them the most sick through the years.

The sign didn't come down for many months (a year?) after they closed. We eventually stopped going by there as frequently as we had. And one day it was gone. To the Big Grease Trap In The Sky, I guess.
