Former BPS counselor found guilty of shooting a teen in the head over pot sales

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Shaun Harrison of assault with the intent to murder and nine other charges for shooting a 17-year-old in the head after the teen stopped selling marijuana for him in 2015, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Harrison faces sentencing tomorrow morning, according to the DA's office. The charge of armed assault with intent to murder carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence.

Harrison had been dean of students at English High School but was fired for pushing another student not long before he shot the teen on Magazine Street in Roxbury. Prosecutors alleged Harrison arranged to have the teen beaten up before he shot him in a murder attempt.

According to the DA's office:

During the course of the week-long trial, Assistant District Attorneys David Bradley and Kevin McCarthy introduced evidence and testimony to prove that Harrison was employed as Dean of Academies at English High School from January through March of 2015 and used his position of trust to ingratiate himself to an at-risk 17-year-old student he was assigned to work with. Rather than help the young man, the evidence proved that Harrison instead enlisted the victim to sell marijuana for him.

Displeased with the victim’s sales, Harrison first arranged for the victim to be assaulted at school on March 3, 2015, then texted him to meet near Harrison’s Pompeii Street apartment that evening, cell phone records proved. Surveillance cameras captured footage of the two walking together on Magazine Street when Harrison fell behind the victim and raised a gun, firing one shot into the back of the victim’s head that traveled to his cheek. The victim collapsed and Harrison fled.

The victim was able to stand and flag down help. He was transported to Boston Medical Center, where he identified Harrison - using the self-styled reverend’s nickname "Rev" - as the person who shot him.

Harrison had long had an interest in guns - as well as a belief it was unfair for him not to be able to lead prayers in local public schools.

So does BPS still hire unqualified, mentally deranged, douche-bag-individuals to serve as counselors and deans (whatever that is)? Did this unbelievable turn of events cause anyone to question past decisions related to said hiring? Is English High still a dysfunctional mess? Anyone know?

I'd love to hear more about the hiring process for the Rev. He was hired as a "dean" in January 2015 and tried to murder one of the students less than 3 months later? I'm no HR expert but I'm going to venture that he wasn't qualified for whatever that job entails. I would bet someone helped him get that job.

Before English, he worked as a community coordinator at the Boston Green Academy, a BPS in-district charter school in Brighton, where he organized anger-management classes for students.

and the hiring at any kind of charter is not as thorough as BPS. he had been working at the Green Academy (had some issues there I heard) and then another school before English High. Any previous issues were not passed along.

Control freak, not gun nut. Ran Boston's gun buyback program for years. He's the east coast Leland Yee.

Licensed, degree from MSW schools that is consistently ranked for decades as one of the top 20 in try, I have gotten one interview with BPS for a temp counseling position, the staff had not even read my resume, and couldn't use proper behavioral health language. They recruit and hire predators. This nightmare connected to a School Committee member. Suffer the children.
