No bail for alleged graffiti sprayer
By adamg on Tue, 07/17/2018 - 3:00pm
A Boston Municipal Court judge today ordered Marc Meadowcroft, accused of tagging up MBTA trains and walls for several years, held without bail until an Aug. 16 hearing on whether his latest arrest violates the terms of past conditions of release after he was nabbed in 2015, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.
Meadowcroft faces a separate hearing in West Roxbury court related to a scribbling incident at Forest Hills station earlier this month.
Innocent, etc.

The scribbler gets screwed!
No bail for the scribbler but the cop killer in Weymouth was out on bail for dealing drugs to children and fighting cops and the cop killer in Yarmouth who had been arrested over 100 times was out on bail . There is no justice in the halls of justice.
One More Time
Bail is about compelling his presence at court dates.
It is not about punishment, because those released on bail are NOT GUILTY because THEY HAVE NOT YET BEEN CONVICTED.
ACCUSED AND CHARGED ARE NOT THE SAME AS GUILTY
In some cases there are special dangerousness hearings.
This guy is being held because he is known to flee.
Condescending much?
Thanks for the lesson, but bail can be withheld based on the accused person's previous record, risk to recommit, or flee. In the case of the scumbag cop killer, it's clear he was a problem, a danget to others in his community - and now two innocent people are dead. He should not have been on slthe street.
Also, writing "ONE MORE TIME" before your comments does not make them gospel, or any more valid than someone else's comment.
Allow me
Perhaps a second voice might help.
We can all Monday morning quarterback the south shore scumbag, but in the end he was originally charged with drug offenses, laws that I support, but they are not violent crimes. The DA’s office was okay with bail. The question remained as to the amount. If the bail was $50,000 and he made it, there would probably still be two families mourning today.
As for the bad tagger, he has a history of evading justice, so he’s a flight risk. Hence, no bail.
Does that help.
Ignorant of Reality, much?
Every.single. time. we have a bail report on this site we get WAHHHHHHHH HE'S SHE'S NOT BEING PUNISHED ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!111111111!
Every.single.time.
Because you and other dimwits seem to miss the fact that bail isn't about sentencing every.single.goddamn.time and never seem to LEARN ANYTHING, then condescending posts are in order.
PBBBTHHTTTT!
excuse me...
but your hectoring tone is overpowering your actual message
Ten Thousand New People Every Day
Ever seen this comic? https://xkcd.com/1053/
I lean toward the view that when chatting on the internet, that if I don't recognize the name, than it's a new person. I especially assume anons are people around here for the relatively new. Per that comic, everyday there's 10,000 new people who have not hear of something. I don't know how many unique people arrives at UHub, but I bet there's enough that somebody not going to be aware.
You know what's a lot more annoying? When you go all snarky and condescending. Unlike anons who I can assume the guy who posts probably have not see previous comments because they have not been here... at least 9 years 11 months like me (goddammit it)... or 10 years, 9 months like you - I can know your posts year after year.
Going all hysterical and calling people dimwits is not an argument. You could easily just comment that "bail is based on likelihood to feel not the level of the crime". The same information, but much less hostility induction to the conversation.

What does that have to do
What does that have to do with anything?
Revere?
He seems to be from Revere. Does that somehow change your perception of his behavior?
A month in the can
I hope this will make an impression on him, even if he walks free at the next hearing.
Odds On
His cell is marked up before he leaves.

HELD WITHOUT BAIL ?
Damn........Non Violent Tagging--- NO BAIL? Please forward to Norfolk County Judges
The purpose of bail vs. no
The purpose of bail vs. no bail is supposed to be about flight risk and danger to others, not based on the "severity" of the crime. The judge clearly pointed out he's a flight risk (as he already left the state once).
Right.
If only he was carrying a pistol.
So this counts as news here
but not that crazy shit that went down on Sunday in Weymouth? hmm..
You knew about the Weymouth stuff, right?
One of the issues for us one-person Boston news units is figuring out what to cover on, oh, Sundays when we have a lot of stuff to do around the house. I figured every other news outlet would have the Weymouth news, so everybody who cares about local news would hear about it and that there really wasn't anything new or insightful I could write.
In the greater scheme of things, yes, news about this guy is trivial in comparison, but it's not something you're going to see reported everywhere else and it is more directly Boston-related.
He was arrested in East Boston
For a crime committed in Jamaica Plain (most recently). All parts of Boston.
Meanwhile, you are concerned about a crime committed in Weymouth by a Brockton native.
Here’s a idea, START YOUR OWN NEWS WEBSITE!
Then explain to me why I read
Then explain to me why I read about Quincy and Brockton on this site..
Who said I'm perfect?
And again, how did the fact that I didn't cover the story keep you from reading as much as you wanted to about it?
If I started a Kickstarter campaign to hire a second reporter, would you contribute?
Excellent reminder
There's no need for Kickstarter, when there's that lovely blue "Support Now" button to the right, right over there.... -->
You can even sign up for a recurring payment, which I just did, since I get a lot of value from this site.
Because the owner and editor of this site chose those posts?
Jeez, it's not that hard to understand.
Adam covers lots of local news more deeply than any other outlet. This especially goes for crime and shootings in the city.
He also does a lot human (or animal - ok turkey) interest stories.
He's not going to regurgitate news he can't get another angle on.
Makes the site more interesting in my opinion.
BTW, the Patriot Ledger is giving the Weymouth shootings plenty of coverage, as are many Boston and national sites.
RIP to the officer and the woman in her home.
This is his myspace page
(yes, myspace) when he was a young lad in Wyoming. He was into alternative/indie music.

Harsh
No bail seems a bit harsh. Set it at $50,000 or something and make his family keep him around. Or if he skips town, the 50k should cover the damages. But no bail - a month, or longer likely, in prison for grafiti. Wow!
I’d agree
If he hadn’t fled the state before.
He’s looking at two years in jail, and you know the Commonwealth will be making a case that he used up any good will after getting probation the last time. If he was smart, he would have taken his second chance, but it appears that his judgement is as good as his “art” skills.
Is he a convicted felon?
He was charged in 2016-17(?) with at least one felony in Wyoming after being extradited from San Francisco.
"Ciga-"rceration
It might be the only thing left for this person. He had a chance to get out unscathed yet he returned to the area and continued with the property destruction.
Restorative Justice
Where are all the champions of the concept of restorative justice and that young people under 25 are not responsible for their actions because their brains are not fully developed. When did possession of a magic marker become a more serious offense than possession of a firearm or knife? This has nothing to do with crime and punishment it is about the MBTA public relations department selling how tough they are on a vandal with a magic marker because they are inept at catching thieves looting cars in commuter parking lots, sex offenders who roam the rails and troublesome teens who fight on the trains. If you ride the T daily you will witness smokers, fare jumpers, fights, perverts, druggies and drug deals and your bus driver getting spit on or punched out. The T's version of broken windows policing is a joke.
You don't really understand what restorative justice is, do you?
For starters, it requires both criminal and victim to agree to it.
As for this guy, jesus, you people have been complaining for years about how lenient Massachusetts judges allegedly are and now here's a judge cracking down on somebody and you're getting all smushy about it.
As for bail, as has been pointed out above, and elsewhere, the purpose is to ensure somebody shows up in court. This guy has a proven record of fleeing and lying in court, so is it really that hard to understand why a judge might agree this particular guy (facing cases in five separate courts just in this county) should be held without bail as a flight risk? It's not a question of punishment; it's a question of getting him to show up in court to explain himself.
Get a calligrapher a gargantuan wall and art school program!
Get the artist a gargantuan wall to display work and opportunity for an art school program!
The cost for putting away a calligrapher would be greater than redirecting creative energies. Other artists with better street smarts don't get caught.

Um
My five year old does better "calligraphy" than this guy.
In short, in addition to learning how to respect property, this guy needs to learn how to do art.
Updates?
Does anyone have any additional updates on the case?
He's still in jail
He had a hearing scheduled for earlier this month, but it was postponed until next month (the 20th, I think).
Cheers, thanks!
Cheers, thanks!
OREGON
He has unresolved charges in Oregon for criminal mischief and interfering with peace officer and a warrant for failing to appear on those charges.
He also owes $768 in Oregon for getting caught twice riding the train without payment. That includes penalty for defaulting.
The kid just has
A complex relationship with public transit.
