Mexican place to open next to Mexican place in Roslindale Square

Roslindale Village Main Street reports that the JP-based Chilacates will be opening its latest outlet in the Washington Street space vacated by Redd's in Rozzie and Tony's Market.
The location is right next door to Romano's, which serves Mexican food as well as pizza and subs.
Redd's shut earlier this year, while Tony's moved to a new location down Washington Street in 2016.

We seem to have gotten a storefront church where Harrison Refrigeration used to be, across the street from this site.
That's never a good sign for the retail environment.

The organization now occupying 4262 Washington Street, Roslindale, where Harrison Appliance used to be, is the Roslindale District Office of Roxbury Youthworks.

Retail is still dead but let's fill up those store fronts with offices to keep the restaurants and cafes busy.
And for the record
Harrison is still alive and kicking, but their entrance is now on Poplar around the corner.

Romano’s is essentially a takeout place and I have always found the pizza Mexican combo to detract from the quality of both. It will be nice to have a sit down Mexican place. I hope they get a liquor license.

I'm not anti-Chilacates but they have been making a push to expand their markets and, aside from the second outlet on Centre Street in JP, none have actually opened.
I was super excited when I heard they were taking over the old Grass Fed on Centre (to run as a burger joint) but that was months ago and it's still not open. The locations in Chestnut Hill and the south end aren't open yet either.
But, to be honest, I'll probably stick with La Taqueria for my Mexican - closer to my house and huge, delicious portions.
I wish Chilacates the best of luck getting open and being a part of the Rozzie community.

What is your go to at La Taqueria? I've gone twice and been disappointed both times.

We have always had really good luck.
I really enjoy their al pastor (either in hard shell taco, burrito or the burrito bowl). If getting the burrito/bowl, I get it with the cilantro rice, black beans, roasted corn, fresh pico, cheese, and the pickled cabbage.
The azteca salad is another go-to and have had good shrimp and fish tacos there also. And I like their tostones and yucca fries.

A little disappointing
I say this with the caveat of being a JP resident who already lives within 1 mile of two Chilacates locations... BUT this is definitely a little disappointing.
The fast-casual atmosphere of Chilacates won't make the best possible use of the Redd's location, which has an awesome outdoor patio and great for a restaurant / full bar. I was hoping that a concept similar to Redd's would replace it, and this just isn't going to cut it.
I do wish Chilacates well, but they seem to be expanding very very fast (with this location, South End location, and a new full restaurant opening in JP at the former GrassFed place). Hopefully quality doesn't suffer.
Too bad Rozzie is losing a solid brunch/dinner/bar/patio hangout.

Redd's sold their liquor license to some place in Seaport. I know Boston has started making it easier for outer neighborhoods to get a license (Redd's asinine excuse for closing), but I'm unsure exactly how easy it is for a location to get one there. That may limit who is willing/able to move in.
