Stop the presses: Downtown Crossing getting a Taco Bell

Taco Bell coming to Summer Street

Impending Taco Bell.

Cybah reports the culinary hole left by the closing of the Summer Street Subway is being filled by a Taco Bell.

Boston currently has just one Taco Bell, even if barely: On VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, just up from the Dedham line (it shares space with Boston's only Long John Silver's).

Install a sufficient number of bathroom stalls.

Hot Harry's to open on Melnea Cass Blvd.

Six years and counting........

The food court of the disastrous and long forgotten Lafayette Place had a Taco Bell.

on Comm Ave west of Kenmore SQ on the inbound side.

there used to be one on northeastern university's campus as well

First think that went through my mind was "no new", Lafayette Place had one in the 80s.

In the 80s I had an interesting experience at that food court in Lafayette Place. There was a pizza place there, I don't remember the name. They had pizza with eggplant on it. This was still early enough in the game of having things like eggplant on pizza that I commented on it. The blonde girl working there was a very down to earth sort and she said "yeah, I pulled that out of the garden this morning". I thought it was interesting that a fast food pizza place in a food court of a mall would have eggplant that had just been growing in a garden that very morning.

Is Sbarro the name your thinking of?

Now it's a Pizza Hut.

The Taco Bell was in the location at the same time as the Pizza Hut (along with a KFC, of course.)

I thought it was the Taco Bell and the KFC that co-existed; there's just so much local fast-food news my brain can hold (bad enough I still remember where the Arby's was - and when there were McDonald's across the street from each other on VFW Parkway).

It was a full-fledged Kentacohut at one point. Then I think it was a combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell.

World class city.

Man, people are exciting about this... my tweet is being reshared again and again.

I've never seen people so happy for a Taco Bell.

I suspect this will be the most visited UHub post of the week.

That's been there for years...and yes, I do remember the long-closed Lafayette Place, which was right across the street from the arcade that was there until the mid '90s - early 2000s before the complete renovation of the area.

Didn't Cambridge have 3 at 1 point- the mall one and the TB/ KFC's in Inman and Porter?

They did have a KFC/TB at Prospect and Hampshire Streets - not sure about the Porter Square one (I don't visit Porter Square enough to know).

If you mean the one on the corner of Walden St. & Mass Ave., it's been gone for years.

Well there were two...

Prospect is gone, became condos

Porter is gone but now a restaurant

I think Porter was just a KFC not a combo.

It could be a Chipotle. "Would you like cheese and guacamole with your norovirus?"

There's already one at 101 Summer. Subway is at ~76 Summer.

Our own norovirus distribution center in Downtown Crossing.

There's a few... Summer St, School St, Seaport, State Transportation Building, and a few others....

Which major US cities don’t have Chipoltes downtown? Maybe St. Louis?

Taco Bell

I don’t understand why another city like Chicago has 19 locations and Boston two. I would love one in my area of town. Food is tasty and inexpensive.

...the "food" items like the seven-layer burrito, five layers of which are tortilla?

"Food" is "tasty" and "inexpensive", ok...

Rent.

per the abutters...

Boston Needs:
White Castle (The closest WC is a 4+ hour drive to the Bronx-unacceptable)
Big Boy
Del Taco
In and Out
Carl's Jr
Jack in the Box
Waffle House
Arby's
etc
I wish some entrepreneurial soul would put a White Castle in the space where the pretentious crunchy granola co-op is shutting down on the JP/Roslindale by the Forest Hills station. With the advent of legal pot, it's a golden opportunity. Boston sure as hell isn't any kind of "World Class City" as far as fast food is concerned.

Mmmm!, in and Out burgers....

I've never had White Castle, but I hear they're very, very good. The one in the Bronx you're talking about is right off of the Bruckner Expressway, a mile or two before the RFK (Triboro) Bridge.

To the haters, tell me where else to get endless shrimp for $15.99?

Just buy two pounds at Stop & Shop

They're only "endless" because your bottom falls out.

I was in Texas back in March and Whataburger is very good.

I wouldn't mind a Tim Horton's down here (I think there's still one in Portland). Although if Krispy Kreme couldn't break the Dunkin' donutopoly, Tim Horton's might not have a chance, either.

There was a Tim Hortons right across from the Maine Mall in Portland, but that's gone. The remaining ones are here: Tim Hortons in Maine

My SIL comes from outside of Buffalo and she LOVES Tim Hortons. When we went there for their wedding, I never went there but my other SIL did, and she wasn't impressed with the coffee.

DEL TACO!

it was supposed to open all over NJ two years ago.. But dont hold your breath for in and out

Funny... in Lebanon NH, we had a Dell Taco in the early 1990s. it closed within a few years.

Oh my god. Yes. How do we make this happen?

I seem to recall Jack in the Box as the most frequently associated with mutant e. coli outbreaks. And you want this?

A long time ago when I was a kid, I lived in Halifax and I am pretty sure I remember there was a Jack-in-the-Box somewhere on the South Shore. It was one of the only fast food places with a drive-through at the time, and I remember the clown and box motif at the drive-through menu/ordering station.

Pembroke? Plympton? Carver? Middleborough? But I do know it would have been one of the only ones around.

I'm psyched! Finally great tasting food with an huge menu including breakfast that us poor people can afford!!! And it's filling! HURRY

in DTX is disturbing. My God, London, Paris have evrry conceivable American fast food outlet in prime locations, not to mention domestic outlets. Some snooty Americans turn their nose up at places like KFC; not the English and French, they adore these places.

KFC is VERY popular in middle eastern countries and India!

Is that legal to require that someone be at last 21 years old?

Job Requirements and Essential Functions

High School Diploma or GED, College or University Degree preferred
2-4 years supervisory experience in either a food service or retail environment, including Profit and Loss responsibility
Basic personal computer literacy
Strong preference for internal promote from Assistant General Manager position
Must be at least 21 years old
Must pass background check criteria and drug test
Must have reliable transportation
Basic business math and accounting skills, and strong analytical/decision-making skills
Able to sweep and mop floors, dust shelves and lift and carry out trash containers and place in an outside bin
Able to clean the parking lot and grounds surrounding the restaurant
Able to tolerate standing, walking, lifting up to 50 lbs. and stooping during 80% of shift time

I am more concerned that they felt the need to say that, I presume their GMs must end up being 22.

I believe they can because a GM needs to be able to do anything in the restaurant and there are restrictions on people of different ages. Generally that is 18 years old but if you are 18 trying to be a GM how can you claim to have experience in operating those machines or working late nights?

I am not really sure what they serve at Taco Bell anymore. I live on the North side of the city so drive past one in Everett all the time and last time I checked in the menu was all over the place. Neon colored drinks, Dorito flavored shells. I thought I saw something stuffed with cheetos on the menu. It looked like the whole place had been raided by drunk high hipsters.... so it will fit in perfectly.

There's all this neon-colored stoner/hacker grub (with copious amounts of Mountain Dew of course), and then there's the fresco style where you can get black beans instead of refried and fresh veggies and all this. Something for everyone!

I mean retail pot shops will open soon.. Maybe Taco Bell is backfilling our area now..

...I'd open something like Insomnia Cookies near one, and serve Kenji's awesome brown butter chocolate chip cookies 24/7.
