If I remember correctly, in September of 2013 we blamed the Congress.

didn't state that he wanted a government shutdown.

Editor-in-chief of The Hill, Bob Cusack, "Republicans control...the House and the Senate and the White House"

Until the end of the month, the Republicans control both the legislative and executive branches of government.

Also, recall what he said in 2013.

They didn't keep the Marilyn Monroe wing open?

Privatize the JFK Library. Why is government involved in somebody buying a ticket to see the artifacts of a man curated by another group of people?

The "library" part of the library is definitely a government facility (managed by the National Archives), but the "museum" part, as I always thought, was a run by a nonprofit that charges admission to keep the museum in a good state of order and to pay the salaries of those on the museum side.

In short, if you wanted to do research, you'd be SOL. And the staff tasked with putting exhibits together would be furloughed. But the exhibits are another matter, but what do I know.

Remains open, since military personnel are considered essential. The U.S. Navy runs Old Ironsides, which technically is a commissioned warship afloat on active duty.

It's not because military is essential. It's because DOD is already funded through next year by a prior bill. This is a partial shutdown.

I was going to take the kids there to say a prayer to St. JFK.
Oh well I guess we will have to go skiing.

Just take the family to the BPL Copley branch. They need the foot traffic.

Big attractions in DC are still open. Sounds like they're bending the law and really ought to be closed, though:

A racist clown kept saying Mexico was going to pay for the wall. If you can't trust racist clowns then I just don't know anymore.

LOL This an attempt to make people care about the JFK Library? Literally no one outside of Mass cares. The state of Mass as a whole is ridiculed by other states, overlooked by politicians - it's the real flyover state. Waste of time for the GOP to even care about and so solidly Dem that even they dont bother with us. Our sense of self importance only works here. No one else cares.

I dunno, have you maybe noticed what this site is about? I care about something in Boston closing because I live in Boston and run a site about Boston and stuff that happens in Boston is news that I like to write about in the hopes that other people who live in Boston will want to know about it.

I don't really care what people in Sheboygan think about stuff in Boston, as nice as I'm sure they are, but I do care about what people in Boston think about stuff in Boston. I know, I know, so parochial of me.

Jackie Mason, probably the most famous Sheboyganite ever, called Trump's presidential win way before anyone... well, except the Simpsons on FOX (look it up... pretty spooky) ... who for Jackie Mason is a recurring guest star on.

I don't really care what people in Sheboygan think about stuff in Boston

Real smart people connect pictures of things with yarn on a wall.

You don't have to care. No, sir.

Just don't play it off like no one else should care.

What states? You talking about those states with worse economies and standards of living, with backwards education systems and third-world healthcare? Those the ones ridiculing Massachusetts?

Such burn.

Any roadblocks / extra security detail put up to enforce the 'shutdown' like back in 2013?

No computers, no VPNs, ID badges held at final departure.

There were other things - I lost track when my friends described it.

They must be non-essential.
