Two men died in Brighton because a third was angry at getting asked to leave a gathering, DA charges

Antoine

Nicholas Antoine, 20, of the South End, was arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court today on an indictment charging him with the shooting deaths of Wilfred Peters and Jeffrey Montaque on Faneuil Street in Brighton on June 30.

As is customary in cases involving first-degree murder charges, Antoine was ordered held without bail. Police had pegged Antoine as the suspect early on, but he fled the area and was only arrested earlier this month in Georgia.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office:

Antoine was among a small group of people at Peters’ home on the night of June 5 into the morning of June 6. At some point, the evidence suggests, Antoine was asked to leave that small gathering – at which point he allegedly went to his car, retrieved a firearm, and returned. Prosecutors say he opened fire, striking both Peters and Montaque multiple times before fleeing. Both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.

[Assistant DA Julie ] Higgins told the court that ballistics evidence suggests only one firearm was used in the shootings.

The Clayton County (GA) Sheriff's office reports Antoine and his girlfriend were nabbed by sheriff's deputies and US marshals in Hampton, GA. His girlfriend was also arrested - on an outstanding traffic violation from another Georgia county.

In announcing the arrest, the sheriff's office said:

Murder suspect Nicholas Antoine found out the hard way yesterday that he had chosen the wrong county to hide in.

Innocent, etc.
