Man on probation as a serial armed robber charged with armed robbery at Brighton market last month

Boston Police report arresting Brandon McCallop, 35, of Mattapan, on charges he held up a North Beacon Street convenience store at gunpoint last month.

According to police, McCallop walked into Quality Market, 140 North Beacon St. around 9:15 p.m. on July 23, pointed a gun at a worker and then grabbed a second victim and made him empty the cash register.

Police say officers caught up with McCallop on Friday at Caffe Nero on Centre Street in Jamaica Plain, where they arrested him on a warrant for, among other things, armed robbery while masked, armed assault to rob a person over 60, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery on a person over 60, illegal possession of a firearm, third offense.

In June, 2019, McCallop was sentenced to five to seven years in state prison, to be followed by three years probation, after pleading guilty to a 34-count indictment for armed robbery and assault with a dangerous weapon for a string of market robberies in Boston and surrounding communities, Suffolk Superior Court records show. He received credit for the 348 days he had spent locked up after his arrest in 2018 for three of the robberies.

Last year, McCallop was detained on a probation violation, but was ordered released on Sept. 13 after a Suffolk Superior Court judge ruled he had not committed a violation, court records show.

Last month's Quality Market hold up came about six months after somebody tried using a propylene torch in a failed attempt to break into the store after it had closed for the night.

Innocent, etc.

used to be on my way home but the store is packed and the windows blocked, making anything happening inside invisible to the outside. Seemed like a target for this sort of thing. I wouldn't want to work there evenings.

Leave that store the (expletive) alone.

What's this scumbag doing out of jail? Remember, kids: I used to call for the death penalty for armed robbery in this forum. We can't get a life sentence? Un(expletive) this, Beacon Hill. Why are you making excuses for recalcitrant degenerates?

Probation is not punishment.

They're clearly right. The degenerate (allegedly) reoffended.
