That photo shows the old MBTA draw bridges which are slated to be replaced. Supposedly they'll also add a foot & bike bridge to connect the existing access on the side of the tracks which would be a great way of avoiding a lot of crappy intersections.
Of course, I might be long in the ground before that actually gets built.
