Patriots fans lined up outside City Hall for the Patriots parade

Sarah Bourne shows us the Patriots fans already lining up at City Hall Plaza at 7:15 a.m. for the Patriots parade.

And that means problems for people trying to get to work on public transit:

has yelled "get a job!" at some protestor or other in the last few years?

85%? 90%? 99.3%?

I've been wondering that since maybe two parade idiocies ago. I'm guessing most of them.

Given the size of the crowd and demographics, I would imagine that 95% could not care less about any other march or protest ever in the city of Boston.

That said, I would probably give your numbers to the crowd that is griping about the people who skipped work or school to attend this doing the same to any march that caused inconvenience to their day. Okay, not 99.3%, but definitely 85%

these championship parades would never be held on regular workdays. And if the players and the League object to that, citing their BS "rules", then the answer is simple: No parade then. Hardly a loss for us, especially given the number of times the Patsies have won the Super Bowl.

What it shows is how unable the T and especially the commuter rail to handle any uptick in rider volume. Already a poop show at 7:30 AM . Wait for the commute home

It's more like a torrent. And, given the gross overcrowding of the commuter trains, it is unfair to criticize the conductors for not collecting fares, as many on Twitter and Facebook have already been whining about.

Quick question.
no planning at all.
no shuttle buses,
no extra trains no nothing.
this is not the first parade ..
There is no leadership... none,,,

You are kidding right?
As a result of the anticipated crowds, trains and platforms will experience extremely heavy volume. Customers should exercise caution, stay safe, and be prepared for longer commutes and crowded conditions associated with the high demand for service. The MBTA thanks our regular riders for your support and apologizes in advance for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of the increased volume of passengers.
great game plan.
Sorry we cant handle the extra volume.
great plan

...any inconvenience you may experience...

It's hard to imagine that this might cause any inconvenience, but on the off chance that you might experience "any", we apologize.

The T and the city’s plan for today should not be, big crowds expect delays, sorry about that.
There should be pre planning and extra service added, whether with shuttle, express busses or more trains.
If there was an emergency today or any day and the T had to help quickly move everyone out of the city quickly do you have any hope that could happen. I have zero.

The Red, Orange, Blue, and Green Lines will operate a regular weekday schedule with rush-hour levels of service throughout the day in order to provide more frequency for expected additional ridership.

You can't order extra trains like sandwiches. There are no commuter rail trains to add. All they can do increase frequency of buses and subway to rush hour levels. There are legal limits to how long operators can be behind the wheel and the MBTA is open until 12:30am

They should have just pulled out all those extra trains they just have lying around, and opened up those extra platforms they have that just aren't being used. That or let people actually use their secret Star Trek transporter technology they're keeping hidden from the public, apparently.

They don't have many spare trains and buses just hanging around in the rush hour doing nothing on a regular day, where would any extra equipment come from? And even if they had a ton of spare equipment, they don't have a ton of spare people to operate it.

Orange line was completely full once it got to Stonybrook. It sucks that Bostonians can't get around their own city because of suburbanites clogging the T. This is what happens when you schedule a parade so close to the start of the work day.

You live in a city. You chose to live in a city. It is not YOUR city, it is a city. Sounds like you prefer a less crowded area in which to live. Maybe the suburbs would suit you better?

Sorry, but I can't understand people moving to a city and then getting upset when people are around. Ya, I was at a busy T stop this morning, tons of kids skipped school. Good for them, I hope they have a great day at the parade.

I feel the same way every time a suburbanite is attacked by a bear

My morning two wheeled commute was just as awesome as always. I even got to wear shorts. People boarding at Stony Brook and closer have more options than just the Orange Line. These parades happens slightly less often than once a year, I think we can handle the infrequent disruption.

This could really put New Britain on the map.

Let Providence or Hartford or Presque Isle take it one of these years

I mean, he did that, right?

Also, we can assume that in no other part of the country are there parades or rallies or whatnot during the week, right?

The Bruins 2011 parade was a saturday. So was the 2004 Red Sox parade. When you have a parade once every 50 years like in Cleveland its no big deal in terms of disruption. When you have 2 in the span of a few months on weekdays its a different story.

Incidentally caused a huge issue with my work. We had a special training event at one of our locations in the suburbs, and two of our locations that were open, as well as pickup points for urban employees without cars, were trapped behind the road closures.

Tough, they said. The parade is no excuse. Turn up on time or be fired.

The NFL, MLB and NBA playoffs are the best of 7 games. They can end on game 4, or they can end on game 7, or anywhere in between, and the last game can be any day of the week. The final game of the 2004 World Series was on a Wednesday, it was in St. Louis, and it ended after midnight east coast time. The Super Bowl is always on a Sunday. In either case, you can be sure that the victory parade is very close to the soonest that the team can get back home -- which is not "home" for many of them in the offseason.

As someone who used to have to work at these parades, they want them to be inconvenient. The City does not care how many people line the streets. The City and Police would prefer not to have to deal with this, so much so many started rooting against our teams. Getting as many drunken suburban high schoolers into the City isn't the main concern of the MBTA. I agree they could do more, I just don't think they want to. It is a huge drain on resources even if it does bring business to the area.

Today people will realize the great job the the MBTA does when it comes to safety. The parade will attract close to a million passengers and there will be no reports of any trouble on the rails. The credit should go to Chief Kenneth Green of the Transit police who has managed to cut crime rates to its lowest levels in years. Other subway systems are seeing a surge in violent incidents and yesterday a passenger was murdered by MS 13 on the subway in New York. BART in San Francisco is overrun by drug users and panhandlers and WMARTA has school fights and robberies on the rise. Chief Green has also taken a bold step by proposing to remove his department from civil service so that he can hire a more diverse group of police officers. Today will be a great day for the MBTA.

So when will the great T police actually arrest some people for fare evasion?

...it becomes a bigger problem than the other things they have to deal with.

Get some perspective, please.

The Red wasn't too bad today at 8 - a little more crowded than usual.

I think the parades are great, and I don't mind people flooding in to spend money downtown all day long. It's more the quotidian no-reason breakdowns during rush hour that annoy me.
