Teen sent away for 14 years after shooting another teen returns to Boston a man and is charged as a gun-toting heroin dealer

Boston Police report arresting Branden Barrett, 30, of Canton, after, they say, officers watched him sell some drugs on Truman Parkway in Hyde Park around 3:25 p.m. on Wednesday.

In 2005, Barrett, then 16, and another teen were sentenced to 16 years in state prison after being convicted of rolling up to a third teen on their bikes two years earlier, opening fire on him and then shooting him again as he lay on the ground. Both teens were tried as adults because of the heinousness of the shooting - which left their victim a quadriplegic.

Barrett was arrested on Truman Parkway headed towards Milton near Dana Avenue by District E-18 drug-unit officers, police say, adding the officers seized "a loaded .40 caliber Springfield Armory handgun, a loaded .380 caliber Ruger handgun and one plastic bag of heroin packaged for sale from inside the vehicle."

Barrett was charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, police say. He was also charged as a level-1 armed career criminal, which could mean longer sentences if he's convicted on the other charges.

Innocent, etc.

Oh, would it be the same scumbag Branden Barrett that shot and almost killed a 15-year old boy some years back? Timing seems just about right. Back in '04 he was sentenced to 13-15 years for attempted murder. I wonder how much time he ended up doing? I bet the parole board is happy to see that he is has been "reformed" and is becoming a "productive member of society".

SO if we do the Massachusetts math, he will likely be back out slinging drugs and toting illegal guns in no time at all.

Nothing to see here - move along - and the beat goes on.

I don't have a problem with eventually giving juvenile offenders a chance at having a life, but if they don't take it, like this clown, that's it. This guy obviously is a career criminal and need to be treated as such. However, this is just one case and it should not impact other former juvenile offenders getting their chances.

Let me start off by saying watch your mouth cocksucking scumbag . He was a child when he made a decision to do what he did that says nothing about the man he has be come today . He is an amazing man Husband, Father, Son, Brother & Friend. You don’t know any facts behind this case nor do you know this mans life or anything about him . So please keep your comments to your self cause your not perfect & neither is this terrible world we live in. Let this man deal with his circumstances without being judged but someone who knows nothing about him but his name .

I can't believe Adam allowed this homophobic comment to be posted. This is the sort of comment that's supposed to be moderated.

YIKES!

A fantastic husband, father, son, and friend gets himself shipped back to prison by dealing heroin while carrying an illegal gun around. Allegedly.

We know much more about him than his name - we know, for instance, that he shot someone. We also know that he is now accused of less serious misbehavior that will likely land him in prison for much of his life if convicted. He has chosen to become a subject of public discussion by his behavior.

You realize you’ve come to defend this upstanding citizen in the comment section of an article about his latest crime? We are going to judge him, we don’t need gun toting heroin dealers running around the city.

How about we look at the facts of the case prior to commenting. Because of course to the naked eye you guys can comment all types of negativity. But let’s take into consideration that this was not the young mans vehicle. He works multiple jobs and gives back to the community in any way possible. So before speaking on what you think you know educate yourselves and stop going off of what you heard from the media. And this case is still pending so I highly suggest that these comments stay to a minimum.

15 years ago he plead guilty to attempted murder.

Another fact is that he was arrested in possession of a firearm, which he shouldn't have had. His only chance to walk on that one is if he gets evidence suppressed. As for the drugs, maybe they were for personal use. In any event, the facts as presented to us do look bad for him.

Specifically, how was he "giving back to the community in any way possible"?

Whoever thinks jail/prison is actually for reforming especially in this information age is delusional. A 16 year old kid that goes to prison (very different environment from jail) for that long is going to come home with much more mental/emotional issues that he doesn't even realize are there. All that time did was institutionalize him and once your used to being locked up its pretty much a wrap because thats what your mind is comfortable with. The cycle continues and nothing changes
