Weymouth man turns self in on warrant for South End beating

UPDATE: Judge set bail at $5,000 and ordered Kenney to stay away from JJ Foley's, the Bostonian Market and the victim and witnesses while the case is pending, Suffolk County DA reports.

Boston Police report Michael Kenney, 40, of Weymouth, turned himself into police yesterday after learning a warrant had been issued for him for a beating on Harrison Avenue earlier this month that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

Police report Kenney was formally charged with assault and battery causing serious injury and assault and battery after he arrived at the D-4 station in the South End shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday.

Police say three men beat their victim around 2:45 a.m. on Harrison Avenue at Fay Street, punching him repeatedly and then slamming him to the ground.

Innocent, etc.

I'm guessing Mr. Kenney thought it in his best interest to make it to the prosecutor's office first so that he can get the best deal available in return for testifying against his accomplices. Either that or he's stricken with a sudden case of remorse.

I bet you'll find the other two male suspects in the commuter rail yards.

It looks like Keolis is his employer.

Unrelated to this story, but anyone know why Keolis can't reprogram the robot that speaks station names to actually say South Weymouth instead of saying "South Wayne"?

It's been like that for years.
