The yin and yang of metro columnists
By adamg on Mon, 02/02/2009 - 9:01am
Yesterday, Yvonne Abraham brought us to tears with her column about the loving couple married for 62 years who died within hours of each other.
Today, Kevin Cullen tries to get us mad at Vermont because a thug from Charlestown out for some country air or something up there went after a guy with an ax and wound up getting himself killed.
What will tomorrow bring? No doubt Adrian Walker will have us gripping the edges of our seats with his thoughts on Bob DeLeo.

Do you know what really stinks
Cullen is really slipping. If the deceased thug's mother said something so idiotic, Cullen did her no favors by repeating it.
If I were the wannabe ax-murderer's parent, I'd be thinking the thing that sucks was my son was dead, not that his initials are funny.
Kinda hard to feel bad for a
Kinda hard to feel bad for a thug who went after a guy with an Ax.
Some states have castle laws (that extend to any property) and it would be 100% legal to shoot him dead right there.
He died because of his own inflated ego, and bringing an ax to a gun fight in another state is almost a nomination for a Darwin award.
If there was a problem, call the cops or walk away. This guy escalated a situation and was on the bad end of it. Boo Hoo.
DeLeo, not DiLeo
I thought your first misunderspeling was a mistake.
i before e except after d?
Fixed here, will fix in the other place. Just stupidity on my part, nothing intentional.
New England thing?
I've always wrote axe and not ax, but I know both are perfectly acceptable. Am I missing something about spelling it ax up here?
wrong word
This was about spelling the name of the new Mass. Speaker of the House.
I know
No, I realize what they were discussing, I just put it in line because it was just another spelling question, not that it was directly related to DeLeo's name or anything. Thanks, though.
Cullen as the girl with the little curl
Adam Reilly gets out his cyber-Xacto and explains how the column could have benefited from some major editing:
Cullen!
Vinnie Tamburello never ran away from a fight.
In fact, he ran towards this one with an axe.
But then he lost the fight.
It's all Vermont's fault.
