A Canton prostitute who admitted extorting $280,000 from a prominent local businessman in exchange for keeping their liaisons secret will be freed from jail next week but must spend six months in home confinement and risks being sent to prison if she reveals her client's identity in the next three years

...be held against their will, essentially sex slaves, for SIX MONTHS while they observed and recorded hundreds of sex acts. Why? They johns weren't involved in the trafficking, and will likely face minimal legal consequences beyond public humiliation. Meanwhile, the women were being held in captivity and forced to turn heaven knows how many tricks while the investigation dragged on.
Shouldn't the first priority be to rescue the victims and prevent further harm? I understand the importance of prosecuting the offenders, but between this case and the R. Kelly case, it seems the authorities were letting the victims continue to suffer unnecessarily.
The implication is that the authorities don't believe what they are saying about these women being victims. If they did, they would have different priorities like you said.
WCVB 5 had no less than six different reporters breathlessly covering "all angles" of this story and devoted the first ten minutes of the 6:00 news broadcast to it, and promising "more to come". This is the biggest thing to happen to local news since the most recent small snowstorm. Is this clown really that important, aside from his enormous wealth?
1. Kraft has not been convicted regarding this charge. I have never understood why we feel it appropriate in this country to publish details of alleged criminal activity before the individual has their day in court. Other civilized nations ban this sort of "journalism".
2. Even if he were to be convicted, this is non-news. MAN PAYS FOR SEX...what precisely is the point of publishing this? Titillation? Selling ads?
3. Jupiter is about 45 minutes from Mar-a-Lago. Just leaving that out there.
BTW...Adam, this diatribe isn't directed at you. Once a story involving a Boston celebrity is made public, of course the local media are going to pick it up. My point is that this should never have been published in the first place.
He got snared as part of an investigation into human trafficking. This was not some high-priced Las Vegas escort - it was, if the stories are true, a massage parlor in a strip mall, being investigated for basically enslaving foreign-born women. They are not volunteers, and they are not making a lot of money, if any at all. It's really the human trafficking that should be at the heart of coverage, but, of course, isn't, at least not yet.
I have never understood why we feel it appropriate in this country to publish details of alleged criminal activity before the individual has their day in court. Other civilized nations ban this sort of "journalism".
We have a thing against secret trials. They tend to be used by governments that aren't particularly nice.
Last night she had the audacity to suggest this might not have happened if Myrna was still alive. Sure, miss thing, of course he waited until he was a widower until seeking out strip mall services. Donald Trump is a highly effective President too Hahahahahaha
I wish Emily Rooney would go somewhere far away and take Jim and Marjorie with her. They are the most sanctimonious jerks I have ever heard on a radio show, almost like an SNL skit about upper-middle class, over educated liberal baby-boomers in the upper crust Boston suburbs. So stale. Enough!
Marjorie was the only one who wasn't a rich brat from day 1, but she's got the limo and chardonnay on board now. Let's find a wormhole for them - tell Braude he will have his own high speed highway.
If Kraft wouldn't/didn't do this when Myra was alive, that might have to do with the nature of their life partnership rather than any particular moral/ethical issue. They worked together a lot.
Of course, all Emily Loony is doing here is making it clear that men can't control themselves and women are expected to do that for them. Ugh.
In the meantime, I strongly suspect that Mr. Kraft is neurologically impaired. Did you see him speak at the Super Bowl? He seemed to be having difficulty getting words out. That doesn't mean cognitive impairment of the sort that would lead someone to do certain things when (if) they didn't before, but it might.

but then again its not like the Patriots have morals. Here are just some of their "great achievements":
1. Spygate (Brady, Bellichek)
2. Taking illegal performance enhancing drugs (Rodney Harrison, Julian Edelmen)
3. Deflate-gate (Brady and Staff)
4. Murder (Aaron Hernandez)
5. Supporting Human Trafficking (Kraft)
6. Supporting a man (Trump) that called a Veteran a coward (Brady, Kraft, Gronkowski, Bellichek)
all the patriots championships are illegitimate and the organization is morally bankrupt.
