Boston City Council to unionized Boston journalists: We've got your back

The City Council today approved a resolution in support of journalists at the Globe and WBUR who are battling management over workplace conditions and pay and benefits.

The council approved the resolution, sponsored by Councilor Lydia Edwards (East Boston, Charlestown, North End) to take the side of the journalists - Globe members of the Newspaper Guild and WBUR journalists who recently voted to unionize).

Edwards said social-media "reporters" may make it seem like it's easy to get the news out, but that the reality is that "to be a reporter is to be skilled, it is to know the art of writing and moving news and moving individuals; it requires integrity and it requires courage."

Bringing up the memory of murdered Washington Post writer Jamal Khashoggi, she said. "If we don't fight for journalists, I don't know how we expect them to fight for us."
