Guy sought for stealing a pickup, running over woman's foot, hitting cars in Seaport

Wanted man

Boston Police have released a photo of the guy they're looking for some mayhem on Northern Avenue Friday morning that made all the evening news broadcasts thanks to the surfeit of reporters and camera people already in the area for the arraignments at the Moakley Courthouse in the college-admissions arraignments.

Police say that after stealing a pickup from a nearby Amtrak yard, the guy headed over to the South Boston waterfront:

Officers observed an unknown Hispanic male flee the motor vehicle on foot. The suspect made good on his escape, evading officers upon fleeing into a construction site. Additional officers responded to the scene and were able to locate a female victim suffering from minor injuries when the Amtrak truck apparently ran over her foot. The victim was transported to a local hospital.

If he looks familiar, contact detectives at 617-343-4742 or the anonymous tip line by calling 800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463).

How did they get such a clear photo?! I mean, it's good that it could help apprehend him, but from a civil-liberties perspective, that is a scary thing.

If one of the photographers covering the courthouse swung around and got a shot of the windshield, this would be the quality when enlarged. Broadcast cameras with high quality lenses are impressive. Some might even been shooting in 4k so they'd only need a bit of the windshield to be in the frame.

I'm not familiar with Amtrak's pickup fleet but it looks like a driver facing camera. These are becoming more common in fleet management. Yes, civil libertarians are upset.

If it was inside a work vehicle then civil liberties has no dog in that fight.
