She to far left for the average voter, plus shes not from Boston.

I've driven by her house, she lives in Roslindale, which last I checked is part of Boston.

Oh, wait, you mean she wasn't born at City Hospital or Brigham and Women's?

Aw, too bad, she's a Bostonian now. So's her congresswoman.

Don’t forget St. Margaret’s! ; )

Can you explain what specific policies or beliefs she has that you'd classify as "far-left"?

Also, she's won pretty handily every time she's run for at-large councilor in Boston, so it doesn't seem like the residents of Boston think she's too far left for them.

She voted with the conservatives more than once so how far left can she be?

in one sentence. It's a tough job, but someone's got to do it.

I'm also curious, with your presumably voluminous understanding of both Boston demographics and political science, how she is "to [sic] far left for the average voter." Who is the average voter, and on which issues are you basing this astute observation?

As for "from Boston," she lives here, has lived here for years, and probably has a much better understanding of this city than you do.

You spelled "she's not a old white male" wrong.

She'd be a hell of a lot better than what we're stuck with now.

I know there's a lot of 2020 work to do before that, but YES let's do this in 2021.

Unless Mayor Walsh steps aside.

From there you have to be tied into the unions. Reformers will definitely never win (too many entrenched interests).

John Connolly was a far superior candidate to Hizzoner -but lost the minute he took on changes to the schools. Most people probably don't realize that about the only growing department in the city is the school department, even though our population is growing and school enrollment is shrinking.

We have about the same number of teachers and HUNDREDS more staffers over the past 10 years - need to double check - but I believe virtually all of that growth was under Walsh.

If a Dem beats Trump, Marty might go to DC. Of course, if Warren wins, maybe she'll take Wu to DC but given that Wu has young kids, I'd guess she rather stay in Boston either way.

Idle speculation - would Marty want Lynch's seat if he ever left office, either for a different gig in DC or a different gig? Seems like being a Rep is easier than Mayor...

Anyone who does anything in this city not ordained by hiz highness the mayor needs a plan b. Because the political circles are so insular you get shut out as Sam Yoon experienced here. You come for the king you best not miss in this city.

Just ask Mike Capuano about that.

He had roughly Menino’s mayoral term in DC. Things get stale after 20 years.

That said, Walsh should stay on his toes.

Mayor Wu will be a future term

Because we cannot manage ourselves, politicos from other states come in and are the next Mayor?

Please it is insulting to everyone who has lived and worked who has roots here. Spin is spin, Ayanna wanted to give foriegn nationals voting power in Boston, is a poorly educated, aligning with anti semites. Michele is awesome as a City Councilor, but we have a very good mayor, Marty is the son of immigrant's who's first language was Irish, not English, they were born in houses without electricity or running water, had an inner city childhood, dot rat, cancer survivor, former construction worker in recover and is Catholic, pretty exotic from any standpoint. Why couldn't Wu and Pressly make it in their hometowns, not enough Cambridge Neo Liberals to donate to their campaigns?

up
Voting closed 0

Not that I'm supporting Wu - but close minded much? Very few of us (including our dear moderator) were born and/or raised in this city. Hell - many weren't even born in this country.

By your standards the vast majority of Bostonians are not qualified to be mayor due to an accident of birth?

Most people born in the city of Boston will never live here, as MGH, Brigham and Women's and Beth Israel have enormous maternity departments serving the entire state.

You're probably a lot of fun to talk to in a bar once you get a few pints in you, am I right?

You might live in a bubble, but the majority of the city is no longer white Irish and catholic.
Saying that people are not from here unless they meet your, strict standard is foolish and rather racist.
The city is much more diverse now than ever and yes, Capuano is a good example. Connolly was not a great candidate. Hizzoner should be happy that Presley decided to go to congress instead of taking his job. That and I find Wu vastly superior to my white Irish council rep, who doesn’t answer emails if you are critical of him and advocates for scooters. Oh and Wu actually rides the T. Marty never has.

Sorry Dear,
The majority of the City of Boston was never White Irish Catholic, that's just what people who want to live in the New South Boston like to tell themselves. If you knew anything about Boston you would know that Irish Catholic was never considered white either, oops.

up
Voting closed 0

As a Irish, Catholic and White i must disagree.
Especially since i lived through the 1970's and 1980's here in Boston

up
Voting closed 0

Well Ayanna and Andrea never returned any of my emails either, Frank Baker will though, he is a caution!! Racist is a word used to shut down a dialoug when you don't want to have one. There is a construction to racism and my comment is not racist. Some Townies get into some very good colleges buddy, some become Mayor of Boston so la did da........wear a helmut when you ride.

is being a child of immigrants a virtue when those immigrants are from Ireland, but not when they are from Taiwan? And if having roots here is a requirement, how deep should those roots be? Obviously they can't be too deep for a child of immigrants. Clearly your root-length sensors are very precisely tuned.

up
Voting closed 0

Having immigrant parents who were Irish Catholic makes you "exotic" (which is good). Having immigrant parents who were Taiwanese is "insulting to everyone who has lived and worked who has roots here."

I'm having trouble figuring out the distinction between these things, but maybe I'll put my finger on it if I think about it for a while...

And those are the binary retorts that can be expected by anybody who dares voice an opinion that is does not aligned with political strategists identity politics. Selling Wu to voters as an "other" is insulting to native Bostonians who are also " others". Think it through and maybe you can put your finger on it.

What is it about tolerance and inclusion you don't understand? What exactly is wrong with being Irish? What kind of sign are you attributing to being Irish and what does that say about your bias? Who said being Tiawanese was not cool? Not me. It is sad that journalism is extinct and content marketing is seen as news. It is an amazing experience to be called a libtard and a racist in the same day, only in Boston.

What is it about tolerance and inclusion you don't understand?

Let's rewind to your first comment in this thread:

Because we cannot manage ourselves, politicos from other states come in and are the next Mayor?

Please it is insulting to everyone who has lived and worked who has roots here.

So, let me ask you, what is it about tolerance and inclusion you don't understand?

Did you just De-Boston Roxbury and claim its Neo-Cambridge?

She will be the next mayor because she understands that all politics are local and she will tackle tough issues like the T instead of PR stunts directed at the other T word Trump.

Look beyond NYC to Ontario, the Bay Area, and Metro DC. Reasonable solutions. Not fantasies. In Boston you still can't go from Commuter Rail to the Metro using a basic Charlie Card. Start there. Pollack sidelined AFC 2.0 in favor of her CLF projects. Wu can help put AFC 2.0 back on track.

up
Voting closed 0

Isn't AFC 2.0 on track at this point?

Alongside West Station, Mattapan Line Improvements, Logan Links, South Bay Development, Red Line Tunnel Rehab, Fairmount DMUs, 1970s Orange Line Station Repairs, and on and on and on. If the project isn't a Pollack CLF initiative, its been on the slow conveyor belt since 2015/6.

of Automated Fare Collection 2.0.

They have a meeting about it tomorrow in the South End (en Espanol?) and in Cambridge on Saturday.

Anything you don't agree with is a fantasy, but worse transpo systems are smart solutions? Metro DC is a friggin mess. The Bay Area public transportation is too limited. We can be bolder.

up
Voting closed 0

That all 4 transport systems (and yes, Ontario is not a transport system, but I'm going to assume they meant Toronto) are in worse shape than what we have here. DC is based on the largess of several counties spread out over two states along with a district. I keep watching a video the New York Times put out a few years back about the troubles they are having, and the funniest (and by funniest I mean saddest) thing was the practice wherein NYCTA had to borrow money through the state to cover costs of operation, and when they went to issue those bonds, they had to pay Albany a fee to issue the debt. Toronto is probably the best off of the four, but considering the Ford brothers make Marty Walsh look like Mike Dukakis when it comes to public transit, I think we are in good shape comparatively.

You may want to visit each city you mentioned. And perhaps brush up on their organizations (does the MBTA stand for the Massachusetts-Boston TA or something else?, hmmm). Boston barely beat out Abidjan worldwide when it comes to reliability. That's rough.

In the news, The T is going ahead with Southcoastal Rail. Further dilution of eroding institution. Does she understand you cant keep adding water to the soup, there is no such thing as a free lunch. What type of solution to the problem is this, what does she suggest?

up

If she doesn't win in 2021, there is always 2025.

That's when all those pre-teen girls in school uniforms - the ones who were politely and excitedly gathering all the Ayanna Pressley cover Metros last fall - will be old enough to vote and canvass.

up

Interesting, but, it's up to the 25% of Bostonians that vote.
