Not a fan of Irish music, but I did attend a few and always had a good time, the crowd was friendly and fun.

What will happen with the space, and the liquor license?

Brighton center is becoming a dry district. Down to two bars. I guess the nimbys are happy about the lack of drinking options (or lack of anything), so there is that.

Corrib, Brighton Bodega, Devlin's, and Porter Belly's is four.

Irish Village is only a few blocks away.

Last Drop is in Oak Square and Harry's is at Warren Street.

Like the only two that have closed are Green Briar which is a shame because of its character and that Brighton Beer Garden place that was just awful anyways.

I would love to know the backstory on this place closing and subsequent...inaction. Short version, the owner completely neglected it and it fell apart in fairly short order (flat roof, New England winters, I think that was all it took). It got demoed recently.

IIRC it was always to plan to demo the building and build a new set of apartments. Why it took forever I have no idea.

Why it took forever I have no idea.

It was held up by legal action by people claiming impacts on the neighboring Market Street Historic Burying Ground.

Minus the last drop, all those locations are within walking distance for us and never cease to please.

Replaced by a pretty good noodle/hot pot joint.

I talked to staff on Sunday, and no one knew. They thought the license was going to a new acquisition, but then they found out it had one already.

I was also told that something like the whole thing is owned by the parents, but there is a real estate company and the restaurant company and one is owned by the daughter and one by the son.

The Real Estate company owned the whole building was charging them to much rent despite the fact that it was all in the family.

As for the space I have no idea, and no one else seemed to have one either. I think that there is totally space for 2 places in the space.

My Guinness was 8 bucks excluding tax and tip last night. The bar bubble is awaiting a burst.

Sadly we were out of town for the last night and couldn't make it. Will sorely miss going here for pint and music and delicious curry fries. That and I just loved the layout, the wood details and the central bar setup.

Will be interesting to see what replaces this space.

The session should move over to Doyle's. I've sometimes seen an informal group gathering there in the back room.

...that the "early" and "late" sessions are likely to move to The Burren.
A session at Doyle's would be lovely; they've hosted ceilidhs (i.e. trad Irish dance parties) in the past, albeit on an irregular basis.

And nowhere to go yet. It’s been hard to find a location that can hold 40 players. I’m sending her any and all leads!

The Boston branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann runs sessions on the second and fourth Sundays each month (except for the summer) from 3-7 p.m. at the Canadian American Club in Watertown. They run a "pre-session" at 1:30 p.m. for beginner-level musicians. Very welcoming and sociable event.
