The Everett Independent reports that Wynn announced tonight it's not selling its nearly finished Everett casino and will open it itself, averting a crisis that would have raised questions about the future of MGM's already open Springfield casino, as well as about the health of Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria, who had vowed MGM would take over his city's casino only over his dead body.

So, if the penalty for dealing with convicted mobsters like Charles Lightbody is $0;
and the penalty for concealing misconduct and harassment payoffs is $35M. (just 1% of project cost)
What's the penalty for falsified traffic impact studies? -The penalty should be losing state sanctioned regional monopoly status.
And MGM showed their hand. The Springfield Casino is a bust

of grift, sleaze, corruption and abuse.
Not like that area wasn't a dump already but this only guarantees that the surrounding neighborhoods are forever doomed to be overrun with fleabag motels, petty crimes, and rampant prostitution just like the AC boardwalk.
This casino is a horrible, horrible mistake.

I agree that very often casinos do little to benefit their immediate neighbors. However, in this case, I seriously doubt that "fleabag motels, petty crimes, and rampant prostitution" are in the cards for Everett. The people coming to this casino are going to be mostly day-trippers or out-of-towners who will be staying in Boston of at the Encore itself. There is no increased market for fleabag motels.
Youre right.

The madams will just buy condos at The Batch Yard to keep their girls safe from the prying eyes of hotel staff.
Those "day trippers" (and obscenely wealthy local business owners) will need massages too and around here its just not safe to go to an asian spa anymore.
Mohegan Sun never had this problem because it's the only thing that exists in that neck of the woods.
Everett is quite a different story. Sleaze abounds. Strippers, bikers, crooked cops and pols. Basically an open palm behind the back should be on the citys flag.

Show me on the doll where the casinos touched you as a child.

Your notion of a modern high-end casino seems to be flavored by 1950's film noir movies.
Mr. Wynn?! is'zat you!?

Not sure if youre kidding or not.
And if you're not, I think you've been blinded by the PR facelift that casinos have tried to convey as family fun centers that exist just for a wholesome good time for some day trippers from Maine.
Casinos exist to swindle and steal under the guise of entertainment. All of it totally legal, totally cool.
I think it's you, Kaz who is a bit "flavored" to the truth.
