Wow
It's pretty unusual to actually spot an owl in the wild! Good on MaryEllen for catching it on her camera, and for leaving it in peace
There are some great "Side
There are some great "Side Eye" memes on the Internet, but this guy takes the cake!!!
Fun fact
Owls, like all birds, can’t move their eyes in their head like we can. That’s why they are able to turn their heads so far around (though not all the way around, as many folks think).
Owls are cool.
Timely
Was just looking into how these guys are growing in numbers along the Emerald Necklace after seeing the diorama at the Science Museum depicting them as the skunk’s only natural predator. Now skunks are pretty cute and I wouldn’t wish harm on any of them but good grief! I think the owls really don’t know what they’re missing over here at Peabody Square. They’re multiplying like tribbles and spilling out of the rafters! You hear that owls?
How many skunks have u
How many skunks have u actually seen?
At Least 3 a Week
There’s the two I’ve reported hit by cars on Carruth (great 311 response on these by the way!) There’s the frisky couple that prance around the pepper oil I spread to frolic under my porch about once a week. There’s the one that runs behind the neighbors as a diversion to make me think the coast is clear so I can take the dog back through my yard while the other lies in wait on my yard to scare the bejeezus out of me late at night (tail goes up, I slip on the wet grass and am flopping on my back like a turtle while my dog tilts her head and the skunk just waltz’s calmly away). Oh, and then there are the ones that my neighbor had to bring in an excavator to be to be persuaded to move out from under his house. So, a lot.

How do I attract this guy to my back yard? Too many squirrels getting into my garden. I would love to rent an owl, or a falcon, or jetpack-enabled rat terriers to combat the damn squeasels in my plants.
