Centre Street in West Roxbury already has an eclectic grouping of restaurants (and is getting an Upper Crust). It even has street performers (well, OK, one, and only in warmer weather). Now the Bulletin reports Centre Street is getting its second bookstore, and not just any bookstore, but the sort you'd expect to see on some Harvard Square side street - a used sci-fi bookstore. The paper quotes Tom Nealon, co-owner of Pazzo Books (which moved to Centre Street from Roslindale last year) as calling this a great thing, because it could begin to turn Centre into a destination for book lovers.

...pops up into a neighborhood, that's a good thing indeed.

Wow, will it be like Central Square without the crack den?

We've said it before and we'll say it again:
Just because a trendy restaurant opens and some hipsters move in due to cheap rents, it does NOT make the area up and coming. The stabbings, the crack vials, and the petty crime and urine stains are not going to entice geeks to come to a used book store and risk having their shiny MacBook stolen for dope money.
Oh yes I heard Ashmont is very up and coming - the Ashmont grille opmned, and then a bunch of drive bys two blocks over really helped with the ambience. Nothing like the sound of poor people dying whilst I eat a $14 appetizer?
Wake up people.
Huh?

What are you rambling about?
What does a new store in W. Roxbury have to do with all that?
Arrgh, I should have read that one more closely before approving

Because it's one thing to rant with your name attached, quite another to hide behind anonymity and rant like a lunatic about a neighborhood or topic you clearly know nothing about.
If he or she can read

Well, if he or she can read maybe the responses will help him or her learn something. Nah. Ranting is more fun for some people.
Do you know where West Roxbury is?

That place is the nadir of suburban pizza gone bad. Ooh how many Starbucks are there? Is there a farmer's market involved? Has Ron Neuman been notified????
Not a West Roxbury regular, I take it
