The Globe reports. The owner of the proposed shop is converting to Judaism; the landlord is Jewish.

While I don't think this is connected to the postering of the Marblehead Synagogue, the swasticas on the Salem sea wall or the swasticas and 'SS' bolts seen in downtown and east Lynn, the frequency of these incidents now is alarming. And this one, reported in the Globe, is the worst so far.

Also, it's how hatefully opposed to this shop some are that is frightening. There have been violent threats made. Pot shops opening elsewhere in Lynn and in Massachusetts are not being threatened with physical harm - just this one, because perhaps a few feet of its property fall within the borders of Saugus. (For more details on that, read the article.)

and the morning convos i hear between the old guys at the coffee shop could be taken straight from the '50s

Trump has given these guys the chance to proudly declare their bigotry without fear of any repercussions, social or otherwise.

This is gonna get worse before it gets worse.

Seriously. Say something. They're old and afraid. Tell 'em that shit doesn't fly anymore.

We need to be the social repercussions.

Really now. I have not noticed this at all and I live in the No. Shore. I think you're just trying to attach this to trump. Nice try. LOL People are responsible for their own actions. Blaming someone else, especially as an adult, is just plain silly and you know it.

There is something fishy about this particular incident. I know Lynn wanted to open a pot shop and the parking lot is on Saugus property. Saugus want's nothing to do with pot and has stymied the opening of the shop. Not sure if this is the same spot, but it could add to the story.

It's Patricia the bigot-apologist. Patricia, what's wrong with you that you always extend the benefit of the doubt to bigots and never extend the benefit of the doubt to their victims?

My casual observations are far from hard data, but I think this get-off-my-lawn syndrome has gotten out of hand. People are showing symptoms at a younger age, and people are going to get hurt.

I wonder what's in the water in Saugus. They have one embarrassment after another (See the story about the Selectmen for example) and they are also a red town. They voted for Trump in large numbers. Cross the border into Lynn, and it looks more like Massachusetts.

Now there's an entire industry devoted to fostering, encouraging, and creating these ideologies not just for fun and profit but for surreptitious geopolitical goals.

These outcasts are now being weaponized by a political party to establish a permanent minority rule by way of intimidation and outright corruption.

This place is %$#@&$...

Even killed.

And before this convo is polluted with the paranoid howls of "WHATABOUT ANTIFAAAAAA!!!" just remember that these are the last days of the Boomers. An entire generation handed a golden land of opportunity for it to improve upon and leave for it's children's children. Instead they handed them a dumpster fire of debt and disfunction set in a crumbling nation ruled by corrupt morons.

These angry, spoiled people will not be going quietly but they WILL be going. The question is whether we can keep the country together until that happens.

...are 55 years old.

If you want to stew in your bile, do so, but you're gonna be doing so for a couple of decades at least. And if you want to nurture a grudge towards an entire generation, quite a few of whom are women or POC or LGBTQ and who endured bigotry their entire lives only to have you shit on them because of the year they were born, I guess I can't stop you. The most righteous peace activists I ever met were boomers.

But I'm not sure how being a POC and/or LGBTQ has any effect on it?

Also, I'm nearly that age and also from being a white guy all my life and from my experience my opinion is we've done enough damage here and need to step aside and let our brothers and sisters voices be heard.

We're a minority ruled government designed to keep a certain segment of the population in bondage, another in power, and another working or distracted too much to care about anything else.

While there is well-deserved intense media coverage of these incidents when they happen, there seems little or no media interest when a suspect is arrested. A swastika and other hateful graffiti was painted on the UMass Boston Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with flags and plantings ripped from the ground. We were told that a person already wanted on a separate felony was arrested and charged with new felonies related to the UMB case. In a bizarre handling of events, the State Police decided that routine booking information would be withheld while State Police (not a judge) somehow remanded the multi-felon to mental health care before his arraignment. Unheard of. It would be nice to see the suspect's booking photo and bio so that civilians can keep an eye on him and learn why the coverup. If a suspect in antisemitic crimes is treated differently and his identity covered up (on two separate felony cases) there is little incentive to stop. Anyone left in the media to file a FOIA?

It may be that in today's age we have many, many disaffected youth hiding behind keyboards as they express their rage and depression out on 4chan message boards and look up to these Nazis as Folk Heroes.

They worship people like Dylan Roof and when their miserable little lives are somehow affected or they finally "snap" they attempt to make an even bigger splash and plan even worse things than spray painting swastikas becomes reality.

You may be wryly suggesting some cover-up or who knows what, but my two cents is that these crimes are more prone to copycats outdoing each other than say a car thief.

Install security cameras. This is 2019. Even a cheapo will suffice. And an alarm system. I'd add a guard dog.

I hope someone will be caught on cam and recognized. Would love to know who is behind these incidents.

The place wasn't even open yet and you expect the business owner to have installed a security camera already?

It is my belief and my position, despite any opposition that I may have for or against a particular position or positions, when someone advocates for my position or positions in a negative Criminal hateful way;

I STAND AGAINST YOU AND YOUR ACTIONS!!!!

Personally I don't care what position anyone has regarding the marijuana shop,

WE all must stand against hate and violations against one/us.

So people of Lynn and around this Commonwealth need to get out in protest against these evil actions.

I mean, how would you know that someone is converting to Judaism, or who is the owner of a building, unless somehow you know the people. There is a darker side to this theory, but I'd rather not write that.

I'm not saying that anti-Semitic attacks on Chabad Houses or synagogues are right by any means- they are wrong, wrong, wrong. That said, they are targets that are easily arrived at due to how open a symbol of Judaism they are. This is not too open a symbol. The North Shore has a large Jewish population, so the individuals in this case do not stand out.

who is the owner of a building

Isn't that, like, a public record?

But who is scanning property records to find people with Jewish sounding surnames in order to inflict anti-Semitic acts upon their property? Same thing with the guy looking to start the marijuana shop. How would his religion be an issue at all with his business?

Nobody who goes through the process of opening a pot shop is going to be anonymous, and especially when Saugus is suing the city of Lynn to try to prevent it due to the extent the parking lot is on their side.

It's likely that the perpetrators knew the owners and Jordan though attending the public hearings. They didn't even have to know Jordan was converting - they knew the owners / business partners were Jewish.

I also live in Lynn and I'm very familiar with the property and the areas surrounding it. When I did sound for some of the bands that played in that building before the previous business closed and sold, there were also some very unsavory regulars who just _might_ behave this way. (That's not a commentary in the owner of the bar, who was cordial with me)

As you can guess, I am North Shore ignorant. My joke was that I feel I need my passport when I go over the Tobin or under the tunnels. Today, that joke would be taken the wrong way, but the gist is that I know little of the area.

The owner thing makes sense now. Still sounds like something more than antisemitism, though definitely an antisemitic act that should be condemned like, sadly, the others recently.
