This is awesome. And I don't want to see any "what about the children" comments when it is children who are being caged, negelected, abused, raped, and denied medical care - not to mention expected to represent themselves in legal hearings.

Breathe in, Breathe out now think before reacting

We have separated and are separating a lot of children from their parents in MA:

  1. Parent is arrested for some extraneous felonious act -- children go to DCF for a while
  2. Parent is arrested for mistreating the children -- children go to DCF perhaps permanently
  3. Parents are divorced -- children go one way one parent goes the other
  4. Parent(s) are killed as part of criminal action -- children go at least temporarily to DCF
  5. Parents die accidentally [auto accident, fire, war] -- children go at least temporarily to DCF

Its the usual nature of the process to do the above -- whether it turns out to be permanent or not depends on the rest of the family, criminal history, etc.

What should happen at the border is that when some group of adults and children approach the US they should be fully vetted -- including:

  1. using modern rapid DNA tools to verify familial relationships
  2. testing their claims for asylum in front of a screening judge

with the ones who fail either of these tests being deported immediately

As for the Cages -- well Obama built them in 2014 to handle the previous surge in asylum-seekers at the border

I wonder if she had a problem with Obama building the cages and putting kids in them. Or the number of children incarcerated in the Commonwealth.

Somehow I doubt it. She only cares because it is the cause or moral outrage of the day to garner attention. Some other crisis or injustice will come along and the poor kids will still be sitting in cages thanks to their law breaking parents and the same artist will be fixated on that.

I have a problem with lies, misrepresentations, and false equivalency.

I also have a problem with people who swallow the above whole without looking into the fact that they are wrong.

Before Trump ripped families apart out of wanton cruelty, Obama took teenagers and older children who crossed ALONE and housed them ONLY when there were no relatives to take them in

Stop eating up propaganda like you are sewed at the mouth to a sewage outfall.

Can you refresh my memory? How many children did Obama put in cages, vs. the number that Trump has locked up?

Do a quick search for "Obama, Jeh Johnson, children, cages".
You'll find what you looking for, what you missed during the Obama administration.

And this is what I read (quote for Jeh Johnson)
"Well, there are a number of things different. First, there was no zero tolerance policy in the Obama administration. We did not separate families as a policy and practice. And the photograph you showed, I remembered that visit well. It was Arizona. It was June 2014, during the spike we had then; though, the numbers were not as high as they are now. And under the law if you have an unaccompanied child cross the border, DHS within seventy-two hours is required to turn that child over to-- to HHS. And in that seventy-two-hour period we needed to have places like the one we set up temporarily in Arizona to-- to house the kids until they could be placed with HHS and the partitions you see, some call them cages, are meant to separate the-- the women from-- from the men, the girls from the boys. But these were temporary. What that photograph doesn't show is, I probably spent half my time at that facility actually inside those fenced-in areas talking to the-- the young boys and girls about their situation and about the conditions."

Seeking asylum isn't against the law, you fucking ghoul.

Just because Obama did it doesn't make it okay. Not sure why people think that argument justifies this.

This isn't an issue that has anything to do with partisan politics. There have been civil rights violations under every president. Let's end the cycle.

Just in time for the Democrat party after their other embarrassing recent photo attempt showing migrant children in "cages" during the Obama era. Oops! Did the artist here begin building the cages in 2014 or just getting around to outrage now? https://nypost.com/2019/07/10/house-dems-use-obama-era-photos-to-promote...

Zero Tolerance was never the policy under Obama. While terrible people in CBP put people in cages during Obama's tenure, it was NEVER EVER at this scale. Nor was mandatory separation of children from their parents during the Obama administration. Children were left with their mothers, while the father was often separated from them.

Also, why are you shifting the lens here to Democrats when you're going to have a hard time finding many democrats would support this practice or Obama's handling of it? You do realize that many people who were supporters of Obama were still critical of him, right?

I'm breaking a rule I have for myself responding to Fish, but I'm pretty tired of seeing this bullshit right wing talking point everywhere.

Help me out, here, Fish. I'm not sure what your point is. Are you in favor of putting kids in cages?

you silly man. Of course he is. Give him half a chance, and he'll write you a Markov-chain-lookalike about how they should all be sentenced to death, but it's Nancy Pelosi's fault.

Look, we're dealing with a white supremacist president and many of his followers. Of course they see no problem with (Latino) kids being held captive in unethical conditions. Many of these people would be fine with outright slavery. What do you think the MAGA slogan stands for?

“The Mallards are Boston's quintessential immigrant family" - gag.

Sorry, they are ducks.

My family is the quintessential immigrant family - migrated legally from Ireland, lived in Roxbury, put down roots, worked hard, moved to Mission Hill, grew our family, moved to Roslindale and West Roxbury, continue to give back, contribute to society, and help my neighbors whenever possible.

Dear Karyn, maybe if you volunteered (your evidently massive amounts of free time) to help actual neighbors instead of pandering to illegal immigrants, you would have a bigger impact on actual Bostonians.

Save the thermal blankets for ou homeless Vets this winter, you might not get your name in the paper (and be the head of the woke patrol) but it will have a tangible impact.

So your family is the quintissential WHITE family ... the ONLY type of family that was allowed!

Hooray for melanin deficiency!

Us Native Americans think you are all invaders - SEND YOU BACK

Only white people can immigrate legally? That's news. I have met plenty of African, middle eastern, south american people who immigrated here legally.

Again,. Legally.

Just because your twisted woke logic has you thinking that america only allows white immigration doesn't make it true.

You are just wrong, but keep up the narrative.

Sad

Remember when migrants showed up to port of entry at Tijuana and the US tossed tear gas at them? Because what the migrants were doing was LEGAL.

sure, but small metal ducks in a tony neighborhood covered by a lame piece of political "art" represent quintessential immigrant boston.

cool story bro - sad.

Um, bro-dude... Boston Public Garden is hardly a neighborhood park, it's a city park and plays host to tens of thousands of people locally, nationally and all over the world. Calm down.

This was, I assume, when "migrate legally" meant "show up and don't have obvious symptoms of tuberculosis"

Came here, went through proper immigration processes, worked hard, and flourish.

Legally, get it. Countries have borders. Which part is difficult for you to understand?

It is the law, which the Orange Regime is choosing to ignore, that somebody can claim asylum after crossing the border, and that that gives them certain rights, among them the right to make their case in court.

Doesn't mean they get to stay here permanently, but they have the right to be heard first, rather than simply tossed in a cage.

Which part is difficult for you to understand?

Orange regime. Pro tip, not a great way to start a debate, but oh well. Can migrants not claim asylum in Mexico if passing through there? So now everyone who crosses the border illegally is claiming asylum? got it. We have borders, you don't like it. Deal with it. Thanks for playing.

This never happened.

Show their papers or gtfo with that nonsense.

My family has been here longer than yours and my protestant ancestors hated your dirty relatives.

"Filthy, dirty Catholics. Clogging our cities and schools, bringing disease and don't even get me started with how dumb they are. Can't even read ffs, and BOY OH BOY are they a bunch of drunks.

At least theyre not black but may as well be..."

- my "even more" American ancestors about your "legal" riff-raff ancestors.

Is why you're bragging that they followed the laws when, at the time, there weren't any laws to follow.

I made a sandwich today, and I made it LEGALLY

Are we still talking about official government policies, or have we switched over to playing "my people have suffered more than any other people because of this sign my grandfather says he saw once"

Spare us the eiresatz fertilizer.

Some walked here 12,000 years ago. Including many of the progenitors of those seeking aslyum.

Some came for economic opportunity, some came for political freedom, some came for both.

White Europeans were only a phase - and only because they were white. The US shut out anyone who wasn't for quite some time.

I've been working there for 10 years. Very Roxbury. So diverse.
Being born there is why I totally bought the "Melting Pot" theory.

Mission hill is an awesome neighborhood, like so many other areas of Boston. Diverse, vibrant, tight-knit, etc.

I support all of these things, and at the same time I support strong legal immigration policies.

See how that happens? One can support legal immigration and still be a progressive, open-minded, person. Amazing.

Imagine during the potato famine all these stinky Irish folks (my ancestors too) arriving on stinky boats, starving. And then being locked up because they did not follow the legal, paperwork, years long process. Or the border being closed and they are told to go back where they came from. Then you can equate your ancestors story to the current situation.

up
Voting closed 0

My family also immigrated from Ireland. Yep, they were poor and worked hard and made good lives here. And that's exactly what the families currently coming here are trying to do! How do you not see that? Seeking asylum is legal. Your background should be the reason you want to support the current immigrants.
