Mystic Brewery in Chelsea shutting down
By adamg on Fri, 09/27/2019 - 2:47pm
Bryan Greenhagen, founder of Mystic Brewery, announced today the brewery will be winding down over the next few weeks:
During this time we will be celebrating what our brewery has accomplished by releasing some final batches, special beers, and selling off our beer archive as well as selling off all of our barrels to the public.

This is disappointing news
There are, of course, a lot of brewers out in the Boston area now, but Mystic has always stood out to me as one of the heavy hitters. Feels rather similar to losing Pretty Things in that regard.
Sad news
Wonder why? Their beer was on par with Trillium. superior than most of the breweries in the Boston area.
Agreed, but I'm blaming
Agreed, but I'm blaming marketing. I can't say I've ever seen it while out and about. Lord Hobo, Jack's Abbey, Clown Shoes, and even Notch seem to be better at getting their product "out there." I don't look exclusively for Mystic when I'm out eating or drinking, or just shopping for something for the house, but, I can also say I've never noticed it out there, either. Job #1, Get Noticed!
Mystic Brewery makes amazing
Mystic Brewery makes amazing beer and are very creative. So that makes this hard enough but it's also a huge loss for Chelsea. I remember touring the facility back before the fame and the taproom and how excited we were when the taproom opened. They went on to become one of the best "Third spaces" in Chelsea hosting holiday vendor events, being the location of the monthly Chelyea gathering, countless events... Unlike a restaurant you could meet people there even if half your group wasn't drinking. Since they didn't serve food you could bring in whatever you wanted making it ideal for people on a budget and as an expanded dining lounge for Ciao Pizza. It made an obvious house gifts when visiting people out of town.
Obviously the city will move on and there are other choices down the road... Including Down the Road but I have that same feeling you get when a good friend has decided to move across the world forever.
Well Mystic, thanks for the memories.
I have a lot of fond memories
I have a lot of fond memories of visiting this bar and drinking their beer. Will definitely stay in my mind along with pretty things. Hopefully Von Lune continues or they have something else up their sleeve. Hopefully also something sweet goes into that spot.
I passed a couple of very pleasant,
leisurely evenings in that place. Great atmosphere, tasty beer, really nice people. Heck.
It isn't every story that leads you to think...
"I don't drink enough!" Marketing (or lack of) aside, Mystic did make a great beer. I lived in EB for most of my life, and somehow never made my way over to the brewery. When I'd see their product, I'd buy it, but never really went out of my way to find it, either. Lesson learned, as we used to say at punk shows; "Support The Scene."
