MBTA figures out cause of Orange Line track fire - the one in August that forced the evacuation of a train
By adamg on Mon, 09/30/2019 - 1:09pm
WGBH reports that one of the little metal signs that lets T workers know where underground wires and stuff are came loose just as a train was passing by at the Medford/Malden line and came into contact with both the third rail and one of the train's electrical "shoes," causing a big spark that started a fire.

If only a list of these fails were presented on Oct 8th
The House and Senate would unanimously reject Baker's transportation bill and demand that all funding go toward maintenance and repair.
Sure
We don't need safe bridges or "complete streets." Let's just throw more money at the T- which has a finite capacity for infrastructure work- to fix things like loose signs.
Better Yet
They would raise revenue by heavily taxing solo driving to pay for the proposed budget and a large increase to what is already slated for the MBTA, so they could actually hire enough people to clear the backlog.
It isn't a zero sum game.
Maintenance
is a hell of a drug
