The Harvard Gazette reports a scientist picked to judge a competition on the Food Network said his experience got him to thinking about applying ideas developed for regrowing new organs to lab-grown meat - and that now his lab has "grown rabbit and cow muscle cells on edible gelatin scaffolds that mimic the texture and consistency of meat, demonstrating that realistic meat products may eventually be produced without the need to raise and slaughter animals."

Why do folks always think that they can somehow outsmart Mother Nature? Not everything has to be (poorly) replicated by humankind.
More of the same bullshit. Either the argument is that raising livestock is hard work...we wouldn't want that would we? Or, the argument is that somehow farting cows are destroying the planet while folks jet set across the globe only to return to their "green" electric cars.

Of all the mammal and vegetable species that humans eat, very few still still exist in the wild, and those that do are so changed as to be unrecognizable. There are two ways of looking at this; either we have fucked with nature so thoroughly that no further efforts raise the bar to any real degree, or (my preference), we are completely incapable of fucking with nature, because we are part of it, and so is everything we do.

It's pretty weird to believe that, having progressed to a markedly unsustainable model of industrialized meat production and combustion engines, now is a great time to call it quits.
