Man was hanging out with a loaded gun in his backpack outside Boston Medical Center, police say

Boston Police report arresting a local man on gun charges at Massachusetts Avenue and Albany Street shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Police say officers patrolling Albany Street across from the medical center noticed Maxime Thevenin, 31, whom they knew was already wanted on a couple of warrants:

Upon seeing the officers, Mr. Thevenin clutched the backpack he was holding and fled on foot running across Massachusetts Avenue onto the opposite side of Albany Street. Once apprehended, officers recovered a loaded Taurus PT 738 .380 caliber with 6 rounds of ammunition in the magazine from his backpack.

Thevenin was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police say.

This is not the first time police have arrested Thevenin on gun charges. A 2010 arrest in Dorchester resulted in a Massachusetts Appeals Court ruling that police had probable cause to search his room in his family's Dorchester home, where they found a gun.

Innocent, etc.

Small potatoes. Who brought these guns here in the first place? Why are so many able to be trafficked into our city? This gun was sold legally at some point so what's going on with the dealer who sold it and who they sold it to?

Do you really feel like taking this one gun off the streets made an impact on the number of guns we have in our community? Of course not.

Illegal guns should be very hard to get. Instead they're very easy to get. And if they're easy to get this situation is going to play out over and over again no matter what jail sentence is dolled out.

You're waiting for thousands of guns to illegally enter our city and then wanting to do something about it. Too late. That won't change a thing. We have to formulate a better picture of how they get here.

Skip this headline. Tell me when there's one about a gun trafficker or unscrupulous dealer.

his last gun charge was actually for a single .22 caliber bullet. which was probably planted.

Was it a legal/registered firearm? Did the man have a license?
