WBZ reports the Woburn Red Robin had to be evacuated last night and three people taken to a local hospital as a precaution - about two weeks after the manager of the Burlington Buffalo Wild Wings died in a similar mishap.

Again?
Makes you wonder how often it happens nation-wide. How damn big do the warning labels have to be?
Train Them Well
That Is All
Not about warning lables
This is massively about training: training in use, training in storage, training in spill response.
Training that these chain stores don't get that they are required to do with all employees who handle, store, and use these chemicals.
Does this happen often
and doesnt usually result in fatalities so its never reported except since Wild Wings we now are more aware?
Or?
Are we in the midst of another Tide Pods pandemic?
Need mandatory safety training for workers
Employers have to assume that most people don't know the dangers of mixing cleaning products. Warning labels aren't enough, especially since many kitchen workers have limited grasp of English.
OSHA already requires it:
OSHA already requires it: "Each employee who may be "exposed" to hazardous chemicals when working must be provided information and be trained prior to initial assignment to work with a hazardous chemical, and whenever the hazard changes."

But does anyone follow OSHA regulations?
I have been blessed to have worked in a variety of bizarre retail and restaurant industry jobs over the years and I’ll say- whether I was in a management role or a front line employee, I have never been given any sort of training that mentions the mix of hazardous materials.
In 15 years I have played with photo chemicals, floor cleaners, grease solvents, etc and no one has ever taken the time to say anything about potential mixing hazards. Several times, the chemicals have been redistributed into smaller bottles/jugs that have no more than a masking tape label that say things like “floor,” “glass,” etc.
Scary world for us low level dummies!
My part-time workplace (a gym
My part-time workplace (a gym) has bilingual (English/Spanish) training material and warning labels, and the cleaning solution bottles are color coded (so don't mix purple and green, for example). I don't know how much this helps, per se, but so far no one has accidentally caused a hazmat incident.
Old time hazmat instructions,
Old time hazmat instructions, just use the dangerous placate , covers everything!
