See, I told you you could trust the Gorton's Fisherman

Gloucester statue tells the USS Constitution and Plymouth Rock to suck it; wins our nod for the next Massachusetts quarter (or perhaps people in Essex County just have way more time on their hands than the rest of us and stuffed the online ballot).

Something smells "fishy" about this, pardon the pun.

Deval Patrick does not poll well on the North Shore, especially in that area. Is it possible the books were cooked in order to make people in that area like him a little more before the next election?

If you watch the Deadliest Catch, they sometimes leave the crab boats and take the captains on a vacation to Gloucester to talk fish with the Gloucester fleet captains.

The Statue and the memorial to dead fishermen figures very prominently in their scenery shots.

I suspect the newfound visibility might have played a part in this.

I voted for the U.S.S. Constitution, but really, this might be a better choice. The Constitution is parked here, but it isn't as integral an element of Massachusetts history as the fishery. I'd say the fisherman is a very good choice. In fact, if I hadn't made a narrow-minded, Suffolk-centric kind of vote, I might have noticed Mr. Groton and given him the nod.

This is definitely fishy. Or just ballot stuffing. I think some of the towns encouraged someone to sit at their computer and vote all day long. Why didn't they allow one vote per IP?

The face that a park in Lowell came in second. Who are you kidding?

The Gloucester Fisherman will look good on a coin, although it should be done in copper to match the real thing.
