Man gets 9 to 10 for raping woman who got into car she thought was her Uber, but wasn't

A Suffolk Superior Court judge yesterday sentenced Imer Soto, 33, of Dorchester, to 9 to 10 years in state prison for raping a woman who got into a car she thought was her Uber ride home from the Black Rose on State Street in 2016, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Soto was convicted on Feb. 5 for an incident that started outside the Black Rose on Feb. 8, 2016, according to the DA's office:

When a car stopped in front of the Black Rose, the victim, believing it to be her ride, opened a passenger door. Soto was sitting in the back seat and pulled her into the vehicle and the operator of the car drove off. During the ride, Soto raped her. The woman managed to escape from the car and called a friend. She went to Massachusetts General Hospital where a sexual assault evidence kit was collected. Soto was identified through DNA analysis.

According to the DA's office three Uber drivers currently await trial on charges they raped women passengers after picking them up outside bars in 2018 and 2019. Also awating trial: A man who allegedly posed as an Uber driver to pick up a woman outside the Harp and rape her.
