Remember when you could just walk into a store and pick up some toilet paper?

Anna shows us where the toilet paper used to be at the Quincy BJ's.
There was a similar scene at the Stop & Shop in Hyde Park today, but the nearby Shaw's had plenty of bottom-of-the-line store-brand stuff (and even some of the plusher stuff):
Whole Foods shoppers, of course, were busy buying up other stuff, like rice and pasta at the Fenway store, as Ryan shows us:
That was the same at the chestnut hill star market. However there was still some left pic.twitter.com/AdFewaT7Ec

FWIW
I was in CVS this morning and the two people in front of me each bought $100+ of cold medicine and related supplies. They didn't look sick so I'm assuming people are preemptively stocking up. Hopefully they can restock in time for people who actually need it.
How do you know they weren't
How do you know they weren't buying it for elderly parents and neighbors who are sick? Who are you to judge?
Its not that hard to spend
Its not that hard to spend $100 on cold medicine. Especially if you buy the good stuff with an actually effective as a decongestant ....
Are they also panic-buying
Are they also panic-buying food? No need for toilet paper of you aren't eating...
Why?
I'm having a hard time understanding the hoarding behavior. Is it that people want to avoid a second or third trip, with the possibility of exposure, later in the month, or is it that there is fear the supply chain will be disrupted?
I knew those old Sears and
I knew those old Sears and Roebucks catalogues would be useful some day.

Bad idea not keeping your stacks of Globe Direct advertising circulars!
Punchline...
...to a joke I saw illustrated once in National Lampoon many years ago:
"You got singles for a five?"
Wow
I went to a neighborhood market in Dorchester earlier for milk but decided to peruse the cleaning supply aisle. I keep hand sanitizer, cleaning products & bleach in stock anyway but not knowing how long this is going to last I thought I'd check since I was there. No bleach. Minimal toilet paper. No Clorox wipes. Did have the Clorox & Bleach Cleaner so grabbed some of those & thank goodness they weren't price gouging! On my way back I ran into someone I know from around the hood who lives in some type of home (I think for recovering addicts) who I have purchased industrial bleach, toilet paper, big things of Lysol from in the past. So, sue me. I asked if he had any of those things & he gave me his # - I'm gonna call in a bit. If I can get that stuff for little money I damn sure will get it. Yes, judge me if you like, but I buy hot shit, as long as I'm comfortable that you didn't steal it from your mama, auntie, grandma's house, etc. I don't do that.
Am I missing something?
Where does it say that one of the symptoms of Covid-19 is loose bowel movements?
where the toilet paper used
It's even worse. That's actually the wall where the paper towels usually are. The TP is usually on the wall to the right of the fire door. If they were down to that one pallet of whatever, they've gone through everything else.
