Lanny, you ask “Why begin with an unnecessary ‘so’?” Because language changes, that’s why. (You should read Because Internet, an excellent and readable book about how the internet has changed our language.) Beginning a sentence with “so” ties it into a preceding or ongoing conversation; it’s a useful if minor improvement in our language.

So, I watched all 8 minutes. It was soothing, I think because I haven't been out at all and because it's telling me all my beautiful city will be here when we get back to normal. Normal, of course, could be more than a few months away. And normal will be different. Still, those footpaths through the Common, the granite steps at Quincy Market, the derelict wharf, all these old friends, are waiting for us to come back.

Spanish police have also taken to highlighting examples on social media of what people should not do in public during the country's state of emergency. In the southeastern Murcia region, they posted video of police stopping a person waddling outside in a full-body dinosaur costume and tweeted that pets can be taken for brief walks by owners but that "having a Tyrannosaurus Rex complex is not” allowed.
