The empty city: Dale Street playground, Thursday afternoon

Dale Street playground in Roslindale with no kids

Unlike most playgrounds, there's no fence or gate to lock at the playground on Dale Street in Roslindale, at the edge of Sherrin Woods. But there is this sign. And on a nice spring afternoon yesterday, there were no kids.

There still seem to be a good number of people walking in Sherrin Woods, adjacent to here, at a good social distance.

Which is how I wound up on Dale Street. There was even one person enjoying his own little Fortress of Solitude up at the top of that giant rock in the middle of the woods.

I don't understand these new playground designs. My kids just don't find them very fun vs. the older platform/slide/ladder designs. Seems like a case of fixing something that wasn't broken, design-wise.

No wonder so many people let their dogs off leash if the city is going to put a stack of huge chew toys in the park.
