What a loss for Chinatown and Boston! As a poor college student I would get zooted out of my mind on Vietnamese iced coffee and spring rolls. RIP!

a bit funky, but I loved that place! Bahn-mi WAAAYY before there were food trucks, etc.

Sadly we are going to lose a lot of food places. Chinatown must have been hit particularly hard because people had avoided the area before the shut down, then the shut down and outdoor seating does not seem like a remote possibility for many of the restaurants. I have to imagine that rents must be pretty high too.

Always good for a pack of veggie/tofu spring rolls for a quick snack.
I’ll miss that cheap go-to spot.

I’ve been going there for decades.

“...saying that "Chinatown as we know it has changed drastically”

There will be no Chinatown left in a short while, thanks to gentrification.

It was pretty recently that me and MC Slim JB were exchanging comments about New Saigon and 163 Vietnamese Sandwich when the other post regarding the latter's lot was brought up. Really sad to think that a month later we'd be reading this news, and especially for the business owners.

Spectacular indeed, especially for the price.

that has very tight quarters, no outdoor seating, and the kind of razor-thin margins (even by industry standards) that New Saigon presumably operated on are at the edge of an abyss. I expect that same fate awaits many indies that are scraping by on takeout and scant patio dining, too, before we can return to any semblance of pre-pandemic dining out. It's not hard to imagine that taking a year or more. It's carving a hole out of the city's soul. Mine, too.

It can't help that downtown office workers basically don't exist right now.

NO!!!!!! Are there any other little holes in the wall like that where u can get good Vietnamese sandwiches for great prices in the area?

I loved that little hole-in-the-wall place. Now I’ll have to go to Dorchester or the shop next to Kam Man in Quincy, but they are nowhere near as easy to get to. There’s a Banh-mi shop in West Roxbury too.

I remember when the area where that restaurant was was the heart of the Combat Zone. Looks like we've entered the one step forward, two steps back phase.

Every time I was in there, a lot of their lunch customers seemed to be workers from Tufts/NEMC. I wonder where they'll go now?

Rooting for Jook Sing to make it, fearful that they won't. Best wonton noodle soup in town.
