Balloon-huffing screamer and pal arrested in Harvard Square, police say
Cambridge Police report arresting two men in Harvard Square last night - one of them after "sprinting into traffic" on Mt. Auburn Street after police arrived and spotted his pal sucking in some nitrous oxide from a balloon filed from one of the five tanks police say the two had in their car.
Police say that around 9:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of two guys screaming while sitting in a car parked on Mt. Auburn near JFK Street, in time to spot Austin Deem, 23, of Sutton, take a hit off a balloon he'd just filled from a four-foot nitrous-oxide tank on the passenger side of the car:
Andrew Pope, 22, of Richmond, VA, who was sitting in that seat with the tank, got out of the car as officers approached, police say:
Pope fled the vehicle, sprinting into traffic for half a block before falling in the middle of the street, at which point he was detained by officer. Inside the vehicle, a black suitcase was found behind the passenger seat of the vehicle and Pope stated that the bag belonged to him. A search of the bag resulted in the discovery of cash and multiple jars of leafy substance, waxy substance as well as powdered leafy substance, all believed to be cannabinoids, individually packaged and well beyond the limit of personal use.
Police add a further inventory of the car found four four-foot-tall nitrous-oxide tanks and one two-foot tall tank. "All tanks appeared to be full," police say.
Deem was charged with inhaling substances with toxic vapor. Pope was charged with possession of Class D substances with intent to distribute and disorderly conduct, police say.
Innocent, etc.

Deep Dive
Interesting law given that cigarettes and marijuana smoke (particulates) is acceptable.
For effs sake most gases are toxic in isolation.
Getting a buzz from huffing oxygen should be outlawed.
um
that’s helium
but I sure do love that Chipmunk’s Christmas Album!
nitrous, not helium
nitrous doesn't make your voice higher like helium does.
