A primer: When the Unions are fully employed (like they have been for the last 10 years) some of what would normally be "Union" work falls to non-union shops. Prevailing wage laws mean that our wages sometimes triple. It's the law that you now have to be paid as a Union member (oh, how workers hate That).
I once worked for a shop that demanded we start work a half-hour early (6:30) and we had to be on a ladder and working at 6:45. No more meet at the trailer at 7:00 w coffee and slowly starting the day. 8 hour day is now 8.5, no extra money. If you didn't like it you got sent to another job, which did not pay you 3x your normal wage. Bosses are the ones who hate PW laws. Who are you speaking for again?

Prevailing wage laws are unfair to an employer and raises costs to taxpayers for work being done on their behalf. Of course workers like it, people like more money in their paycheck.
What you describe is illegal, I'm talking about a company which employs non union workers ( the majority of workers are non union) paying legal wages and not breaking labor laws having to bid higher for a job because the government says so. The system is geared to advantage unions .

It's also pervasive, and companies such as Amazon and Walmart have been sued over it. "Unfair to employers" is a ridiculous thing to say. Employers hold all the cards, and if there's unfairness in an employer/employee relationship, it's always in the employer's favor. The single most effective counter to that power imbalance is unionization, and all the people who complain that "unions are bad" have been drinking the corporate kool-ade.

That isn't true and I have no problem with employees joining unions, but the ones who don't should have a place at the table when dealing with Government contracts.
Non union workers are not just the majority they are the vast majority .
If I were to put a new roof on my house should I insist one company has to pay the same wages as their competitors who have a union?

The City Council President (Kim Janey) becomes the new mayor though the end of 2021, if Walsh departs early. That would give Janey a huge advantage in getting reelected Mayor in November.
Boston really ought to hold a special election in that situation. That's how it works when a district Councilor doesn't finish their term. Anointing an accidental mayor for life is not good.

Thanks to stupid rules of ascension, we got stuck with Althea Garrison as an accidental City Councillor when Ayanna Pressley moved to DC. We should have prompt special elections for important vacancies like mayor, and leave unimportant offices like city councillor unfilled until the next scheduled election.

Althea Garrison did receive the most votes for At Large Councilor for that term, so it was reasonable she got the spot. Following that model, if anyone should fill out Walsh's term, it should be Tito. In 2017 he beat out all other challengers in the primary election.

yes, but she wasn't the choice of the voters, and she was once again rejected the next go round. After which she promptly ran for yet another office last week, and lost again. I'm hopeful she will find happiness and fulfillment in the private sector, but I expect we will see her on the next ballot.

Voters just dealt with a stress inducing election. Now they're about to see who's going to be put in a national spotlight, and might be agitated at who gets cabinet positions. Being dismissive of their feelings by suggesting that they calm down isn't going to help.
