Old South Church bell to ring at 5:30 p.m. in memory of Covid-19 victims

Old South Church in the Back Bay will participate in the national Memorial to Lives Lost to COVID-19 this afternoon by tolling the Great Tower Bell. It's part of a national commemoration.

Old South Church member and MIT mathematician David Vogan will ring the 2,000-lb. bell, which sits at the top of the church's 246-foot tower.

Not to confuse it with that congregation's former home in Downtown Boston...

The Back Bay church uses the first name. The building on Washington Street, now a historical museum and lecture hall, uses the second.

Was my question too - and wondered if that was why we needed a Mathematician up there doin' the ringing.

OSC member here. David is our regular bell ringer. He’s up there most Sunday mornings ringing the bell at 10:40 to call people to worship.

Could you do something about these bells ringing? I know some people like their religion but I have a toddler here and it's annoying her.
Hugs and Kisses .

Would have been nice to be able to hear the church bells, but news helicopters are swarming overhead, so can't hear anything else.
