Lowell school-committee member brings up the N-word as he offers his resignation for using for using the K-word

Also brings up the S-word and the H-word, while standing between a rock and a hard place as he talks of all his nieces and nephews of color. The Lowell Sun has more.

Adults should be expected to have self control
This seems to be a common affliction among adults: "I can't be expected to control myself". Big part of racism. Big part of sexism. Big part of rape culture. Huge part of antimasker bullshit. The next thing out of their mouths is, of course "they made me do it because they (held hands, refused to be treated like shit, etc.)
A four year old gets a pass. Grown men need to grow up.
“Personal responsibility”
Someone should lecture Hoey about personal responsibility.
Adults
Fixed that for you.
Control is only half the story
Drinking alcohol, as is well known, weakens ones filters, ones ability to control what one does and says...
... and some people, when drunk, want to pick a fight with you. Others, when drunk, want to mushily throw their arms around you and tell you they love you.
These are different underlying personalities.
If you believe it, if you're thinking it, and if you slip up and say it, the fundamental underlying problem isn't that you slipped up and said it.
Anti-masker (expletive)
Again, I'll never understand how this is a thing. All places fall into three categories:
-The public outdoors
-The indoors/outdoors to which you have ownership/agency
-The indoors/outdoors to which you don't have ownership/agency
At no point during any of this has guidance called for a mask being necessary outdoors, so we're down to two. You can certainly do as you please in buildings that you own or rent, so we're left to indoor places that we don't own.
This is known in a capitalist society as "private property rights." Seems to me that an anti-masker is a person who is inviting you into their home to raid their fridge and to (expletive) in the upper tank of their toilet, since they don't appear to be interested in honoring this particular American social conceit.
What...
...on earth are you babbling about?
As Confucius said
"Do unto others."
If one deems it reasonable to pick a fight with a Walmart worker for being asked to wear a mask inside said Walmart, then it's only fair to go to their house and be a pain in the ass, right?
...what?
...what?

Usually, the things I teach don't take such sharp left turns that lead to Walmart greeters following selfish assholes home to shit in their toilet tanks...
Okay
I thought you misunderstood my sentence structure and logic (no excuses), but instead, it appears that you can't make heads or tails of why my brain leaps around as quickly as it does (take a number).
Or...
...you could strive instead for clarity in communication.

Not sure what the S-word and H-word are
if they are slurs -- or maybe it's a joke, and the S-word is "sorry"?
I'm guessing
He probably meant "spic" and "heeb".
Thanks
I guess I could have guessed the first one if I'd thought long enough, but I think I only vaguely recall having heard the second before.

There's a lot going on in that sentence, and at the same time, not much at all.
It's true
Hoey's attitudes are typical of a certain type of individual, whose numbers are widespread in geography and age groups. Those numbers are diminishing, for which we can be thankful. He's unusual for having expressed them on the public record, while serving as a public official. Usually, they are more circumspect, because they know their beliefs are unpopular. To know that, but keep the beliefs, indicates a certain arrogance.

Why was this guy on the school committee in the first place? It doesn't seem like he did much hiding of who he was. Nor does it seem that difficult to elect people to a school committee without these viewpoints.
