Citizen complaint of the day: Boarded-up East Boston eyesore now dropping boards on cars below

A distressed citizen files a 311 complaint about the boarded-up monstrosity at Orleans and Porter streets, which was partially disassembled for a hotel that never got built, then boarded up by the new owners who say they'll be turning it into a hotel, but for reals this time:

Building boards are falling out of the third floor window onto cars. People use sidewalk below. Someone is going to get killed. Car below is already damaged.

I think you mean Porter St :-)

Jealous of the expansionist policies of its wealthier and more powerful neighbor, Harvard Square, Porter Square develops imperial pretensions of its own, and lays claim to a vast expanse extending all the way to East Boston. Meanwhile, Sullivan Square is brooding, and laying its plans.

Yes, Porter Street! Fixed.

If you’re a car, you’ve got to understand, boards are going to hit you.

What an absolute disgrace this building is.

Shouldn't this have been a 911 call?

At this stage, I would think it's an issue for Inspectional Services, which I am pretty sure does not fall under the auspices of 911, but if a wall collapsed, emergency services would be there quick enough, making it a 911 call.

At the end of the day, I'm sure that the 911 folk wouldn't think it was a waste to call them, but they might give the caller the ISD number. Just a theory.

If things are falling out of a building into the sidewalk and street, where people and cars are, I'd call 911 immediately.

That's why you want ISD there ASAP, so you won't need the Fire Department down the road.
