Howie Carr really should stop complaining about mistakes at the Globe

Sure, he's entitled to gloat, again, at the possible impending demise of the Globe.
But really, Howie, complaining that the Globe blew it in 2006 in some sports column? Is that really that much worse than Spygate? You have such a good memory, Howie - you're always bringing up obscure moments in hackdom from the 1970s - surely you couldn't have forgotten something that happened just last year?
And what about that time back in 1983 when Kevin White got you guys but good and you ran that front-page exclusive about him running for re-election, only it turns out he wasn't? That was a good one, too. Guess that means you should shrivel up and die, as well, huh?

Does the Herald understand ...
... that if it somehow is the surviving Boston daily of record, it would be a good idea to figure out how to appeal to the Globe's former readers? Columns like this one don't help.

Really, Howie is just a boring boor! I don't waste my time reading his rants in the Herald. I'll bet Pat Purcell could save some big bucks by dumping him, and I'll bet no-one would miss him.

Spygate is one thing. What you're talking about is Tomasegate. Howie probably wouldn't mind mention it but apparently the Herald doesn't like it when he takes shots at his Herald co-workers and he's keen not to lose that gig (unlike the one at WRKO which just can't talk his way out of no matter how many times he says "Entercom happens" when things go wrong).

Howie the Hater
Howie also was interviewed for one of the network news programs about the Globe, and he said that even if the Herald outlasts the Globe by one day, "we win."
Howie is the poster boy of Boston haters. It's unfortunate, cuz he's done some valuable, even courageous, work as a columnist. But at his core, this is one ugly dude. His writings are so lacking in grace or heart that you wonder if there's an ounce of genuine empathy left in the man.
He's also a buffoon.

I'm not a violent guy but Howie is one of the few people I could punch in the throat -- repeatedly -- and feel totally fine about it.
I love how he writes about
I love how he writes about the Globe as "smug" when that's exactly the tone of his entire column. I've had Globe professors in my journalism classes tell legions of tales about the Herald's "journalism." If that's what passes for journalism these days, we're in trouble folks. It's a goddamn fish wrapper, nothing more.

The worst offender for journalism scandals would be the NYT, but the Globe as an NYTCo property does its part.
Note that the Wikipedia list is missing Barnicle (Globe), and arguably the most harmful of all, Judith Miller (NYT).
I'm not bashing the Globe, nor excusing the Herald for its excesses, but I find this a bit odd. Perhaps the industry judges the Globe and Herald by different standards? Or perhaps the Globe tends to commit a few large errors while the Herald does lots of smaller ones?
Patricia Smith Globe scandal
Years ago, I was in a small class co-taught by a former Globe editor. The Patricia Smith scandal broke shortly before she was to come in and speak. If only she'd come in after that, we might've been blessed with a fascinating story. Though only one of us students (certainly not me) was qualified to interview Smith.
